*Job Description:*
POSITION PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to serve as a data, analysis, and reporting
consultant to a variety of teams and individuals in support of their
projects and/or educational needs. Incumbents will possess an understanding
of the reporting and analytical needs, systems, programming languages and
tools used in PeaceHealth. This will require knowledge of the data and
information contained in PeaceHealth systems. This position requires an
understanding of confidentiality and privacy regulations. Additionally, this
position is responsible for writing and producing reports where needed to
support corporate quality initiatives and operational planning. This will
include basic statistical analysis and where required, consultation with
statistician for high level statistical analysis.



The person in this position will work with other members of the Analytic
Services Team to promote the appropriate and efficient use of data and
information. They will support the overall mission of the team, including
educating the corporation as to the importance of data/information and it's
role as a business product and asset that needs to be managed in the same
way other products and assets are managed (e.g., surgical equipment,
medications, supplies, etc.)



NATURE AND SCOPE:



The Analytic Services Team is primarily concerned with data from a customer
view and functional use standpoint. All team staff will work in coordination
with each other to best meet the overall information and analytic needs of
PeaceHealth and ensure the quality, usefulness, and appropriate use of that
information in alignment with the teams guiding principles.



The Analytic Services Team manages data from the point of collection to the
point of use. Data can go through many exchanges, modifications and
manipulations from point to point. This position needs to recognize risks
and concerns around privacy and confidentiality along this entire path and
most especially in the area of extraction and reporting.



As part of the Analytic Services Team, this position would serve as a data,
analysis, and reporting consultant to a variety of teams and individuals in
support of their projects and/or educational needs. Data Analysts interact
regularly with PeaceHealth employees of all levels, including Leadership,
and may work with vendors and external clients as required.



DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

' Data Analysis and Reporting:

' Queries and combines multiple databases from a variety of sources for use
in reporting, research and to support decision-making.

' Works with Healthcare Improvement Division (HID) and regional staff to
understand data storage and retrieval systems and to extract and combine
data appropriately from patient databases and large national data sets to
address both standard and ad hoc reporting needs.

' Works closely with the Data Administration and Decision Support team to
understand potential data issues including:

o Examining special research databases for data integrity

o Editing and coding data prior to analysis

' Uses appropriate software programs and tools, including statistical
packages and programming languages such as TSQL and Visual Basic, to query,
process, analyze data, and automate reports.

' Develops tables, charts, and graphs for inclusion in reports and
presentations as needed.

' Understand and use statistical process control tools appropriately.

' Provide clear and concise verbal presentations

' Effectively establish content expertise: regional, clinical, and/or
survey.

' Partner with the AST Leadership Team, AST Staff, HID and the customer to:

' Identify and clarify customer needs

' Identify business definitions, business rules, information specifications
and requirements to facilitate decision support.

' Provide interpretation of data (applying analysis to content areas)

' Partner to create and maintain self-serve model

' Contribute to recommendations to PeaceHealth governing bodies (PeaceHealth
Executive Team, Clinical & Operational Leadership Team, etc).

' Data Handling

' Incorporate and adhere to PeaceHealth data guidelines for storage,
retrieval, and sharing of data demonstrating an understanding of the issues
related to release of data and potential secondary release of data both from
a legal standpoint and sensitivity to patient and provider rights and
preferences.

' Partners to develop systems to monitor data quality or integrity, diagnose
problems and implement solutions

' Partner to build and maintain databases storing non-warehouse data (i.e.
Survey Data)

' Utilize programming languages such as Visual Basic and SQL to create
stored procedures to extract, organize, and analyze data and to automate
routine reports.

' Utilize basic web publishing skills

' Working knowledge of DRGs, ICD-9, CPT coding

' Effectively and proactively manage and implement multiple projects
simultaneously.

' Maintains a high level awareness and understanding of the role of
regulatory agencies in regards to our work (benchmarking, data standards and
criteria)

' Provides assistance troubleshooting Crystal reports and help desk support
for Crystal end-users.

' Maintains security and confidentiality.

' Actively participate and advance in team development.

' Build and maintain effective working relationships that is reflective of
PeaceHealth's core values

' Foster a caring and compassionate environment within the Analytic
Services.

' Maintains highest standards of professional integrity, personal conduct,
and treatment of data, protecting patient and employee privacy,
confidentiality and security, in keeping with the mission and values of

QUALIFICATIONS



Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required preferably in a health
care or health services research field with coursework in medical
terminology, anatomy/physiology, statistics, health science research and
computer science.

*Qualifications:*
Experience

One year of data analysis or two years data coordination experience,
including use of statistical methods.

' Ability to retrieve and display data in usable formats.

' Computer experience on a PC with database management and spreadsheet
experience.

' Three years of experience in health care or health services research field
preferred



Technical Skills



Required:



' Minimum 2 years computer experience on a PC working with relational and
transactional databases and spreadsheet experience.

' Database Structure/Design- Programming interfaces from a variety of
sources, linking to external data sources, developing SQL tables for data
storage, programming complex queries using Transact SQL, and optimizing SQL
code to enhance stored procedure and report performance, designing business
intelligence solutions and reports; exporting data to other sources; or
equivalent experience.

' Creating graphs, formulas, and functions; spreadsheet formation with
formulas inserted, retrieving/importing data from other sources, exporting
data to other tools.

' Minimum 2 years experience using Analytic Tools such as MS Access, Crystal
Reports, and SQL Reporting Services.

' Knowledge of data warehousing principles and techniques, and/or relational
and object-oriented database and data structures.





Preferred

' Statistical and Reporting Software 'knowledge of MS Excel, MS Access,
Statit, SPSS, and Crystal Reports.

' Working knowledge of programming languages such as Visual Basic, SAS, or
SQL Server.

' Use and understand the Query Analyzer and/or Enterprise Manager programs,
write SQL statements or syntax to extract and integrate data, create stored
procedures

' Moderate to advanced experience navigating multi-dimensional data using a
product such as Proclarity. Adept at designing and publishing OLAP reports.

' Import data from other sources, creation and thorough understanding of the
proper use of control charts and utilization of statistical tests and tools
such as Statit or SPSS.

' Crystal Reports ' Connecting to databases, joining tables, filtering the
data, formatting, grouping, creating parameters, and writing formulas

' Publishing and scheduling using a tool such as Infoview

' Medical Terminology, Anatomy/Physiology or Physical Science

' Familiarity with Coding Structures and applications (ICD9, DRG, CPT)
