The Faculty Diversity Internship Program (FDIP) is designed for individuals
interested in pursuing a teaching career at Portland Community College.
FDIP interns enhance the diversity of the college, and bring a critical
multicultural perspective to the classroom. We offer the internships to up
to 15 Faculty Interns in various academic disciplines *(including
health)*within lower division transfer, career technical education,
developmental
or adult basic education, counselors or librarians.
FDIP is a two-term internship program, which provides meaningful part-time
teaching experience through mentorship and training toward a career in
full-time teaching at Portland Community College. Participants of the
program are paired with a Faculty Mentor to receive training and classroom
teaching experience in their academic discipline. PCC is committed to
attracting applicants from racially, culturally, and ethnically diverse
communities who aspire to become community college faculty.
Program Benefits:
- Valuable connections with a Faculty Mentor and PCC
- $500 stipend for Fall term and Step 1 Adjunct compensation for one
class Winter term
- Based on desired outcomes, Faculty Interns are strongly encouraged to
apply for employment to teach in the third term (Spring)
- Increased knowledge, skill, and expertise in academic discipline
- Development of critical teaching pedagogy, learning strategies,
multiculturalism, and diversity in community college environments
- Participation in Diversity and Equity Training, New Faculty Institute,
and college wide diversity programs
- Program begins each September and ends in March
Qualifications:
Instructor qualifications<http://www.pcc.edu/resources/academic/instructor-qualifications/>may
vary, depending on the faculty intern role.
- Must have completed Master's degree within last five years related to
academic disciplines taught at PCC
- No prior professional teaching experience. (Teaching Assistant
experience accepted)
- Strong desire to be a part-time or full-time community college faculty
member
- Must bring cultural competence and diversity to the Pieceworkers
