> Thank You Health Education Specialists!
> SOPHE would like to salute all health education specialists for being valuable assets to health reform and the health insurance marketplace. This year, health educators across the country have stepped up and continue to put their skill sets to work by spreading awareness on the benefits of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and how to enroll in a health insurance marketplace. SOPHE released several resources in 2013 to supplement the work of health education specialists:
> An issue brief entitled Affordable Care Act: Opportunities and Challenges for Health Education Specialists provides valuable background on how health educators' knowledge and skills are essential to reaching the goals of ACA.
> This year's National Health Education Week toolkit was dedicated to the health educator's role in implementing the ACA.
> SOPHE webinars addressed an overview of ACA, the insurance marketplace, and employee wellness programs. SOPHE webinars are archived in the Center for Online Resource Education (CORE).
> The health insurance marketplace opened on October 1, 2013. Recent enrollment figures show that increasing numbers of Americans are gaining access to affordable health coverage. Individuals that enroll in the marketplace by December 23, 2013, will be covered starting January 1, 2014. This extended open enrollment period ends March 31, 2014.
>
> Individuals can easily prepare for enrollment by using the Marketplace Application Checklist to ensure they have everything they need to apply for coverage. Those that received notices regarding cancelled plans can learn more about coverage options here.
>
> As a reminder, there are four ways to apply for coverage through the Marketplace:
> Online: HealthCare.gov
> By Phone: 1-800-318-2596 (TTY:1-855-889-4325)
> In-Person: With a trained assister in your community. Find help at LocalHelp.HealthCare.gov.
> By Mail: Download the application form and instructions from Healthcare.gov.
> In addition to tailored resources in SOPHE's toolkit, check out resources from other organizations:
> Marketplace.cms.gov
> HRSA's ACA Provider Toolkit
> Enroll America
> Get Covered America
> Let's keep up the good work in 2014 in helping to improve the health of this nation!
