There are two health education internships open at the Swedish Cancer
Institute for spring/summer 2014. See job description below or in PDF
attached. Senior level undergraduate students in health education,
promotion, administration, or related fields at UW, WWU, CWU, EWU, and

*TWO OPEN POSITIONS*

*HEALTH EDUCATION INTERN – SWEDISH CANCER INSTITUE (SCI) *

*JOB SUMMARY*

*Job Status: Unpaid, 400 hour* *internship; 2 positions during
spring/summer of 2014*

The health education intern will develop evidence-based print and online
education materials, design and implement education programs, and provide
consultative opportunities throughout the Swedish Cancer Institute (SCI)
network.



*MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES*

Health education interns assist the Supervisor of Health Education and
Health Education Specialist in coordinating the Integrated Care Services
program at the SCI. The interns are required to work a 400-hour unpaid
internship at the First Hill, Issaquah, Edmonds, and Ballard campuses as
directed by the health education department staff.



Typical responsibilities will include:

   1. Staffing the SCI’s education centers at various campuses
   2. Staffing the SCI’s toll free phone network and patient triaging
   program
   3. Providing clinical data customized specifically for patients and
   their cancer type and stage
   4. Educating patients and families on the availability and means of
   accessing a variety of SCI integrated care services
   5. Developing, reviewing, and editing health education materials
   6. Conducting research and writing content for patient newsletters
   7. Facilitating patient education classes and support groups
   8. Supporting social media and communications efforts to the patient
   population
   9. Collaborating with SCI departments in order to meet the health
   education needs of the patient population, family members, and community
   10. Taking on additional projects based on supervisor input and present
   business need



*SKILLS & ABILITIES*
The intern should have excellent organization, research, writing and
communication skills. The intern should feel comfortable talking with
patients, family members, caregivers, healthcare providers, and the
community through various communication channels. The intern should be able
to work independently and with groups and be able to collaborate with
others to utilize expertise from multiple sources.



*EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE*

Senior level undergraduate students with a background in health education
and promotion, such as those majoring in health education, community or
public health, or related fields are eligible to apply.
