JAPANESE-AMERICAN INTERNMENT TALK PLANNED FOR EUGENE

Japanese American internment at 2 p.m. Oct. at the Eugene Garden Club,
1645 High St. The program features longtime Eugene resident Bob Kono
talking about "World War II and the Dilemma of the Internment
Experience." The speaker's personal experience was as a displaced

HISTORIC CEMETERY SURVEY OPPORTUNITIES EXIST

Sunny autumn days are a great time to conduct a survey of a local
historic cemetery The purpose of this Oregon Commission on Historic
Cemeteries survey is to locate and determine the condition of all
cemeteries, mausoleums, memorial gardens, burial sites, etc. in Oregon
that contain burials dated prior to Feb. 14, 1909. The information you
provide will help the Commission assist Oregonians in the restoration
and maintenance of historic cemeteries statewide.

Copies of the survey are available at
http://www.hcd.state.or.us/cemeteries_survey.php or by contacting
heritage.info at state.or.us

On another cemeteries matter, it is against Oregon law to destroy,
mutilate, deface, injure or remove a memorial to the dead in a historic
cemetery. A court may impose a maximum fine for violation of ORS
166.076, as well as require restitution.

ARCHIVES UPDATES INVENTORIES FOR THREE COUNTIES

The Oregon State Archives has updated its inventories of records for
Clackamas, Sherman and Tillamook counties.

The Oregon Historical County Records Guide includes individual web
pages with descriptions and listings for each type of record in the
inventory. A scrollable version that includes all of the records in each
county inventory on one page is also available.

The inventory for each county is arranged alphabetically by series
title. Each series description includes a title and a description of how
the records are used (function); types of records that may be included
in each category (physical content); type of information that may be
found (informational content); significant changes to format, creator,
or content; inventory cut-off dates; and any restrictions that a
particular category may have regarding access by the public. Because the
organization of offices and their functions, the contents of the
records, or the format of records may vary from county to county, notes
have been included, where necessary, to indicate these differences.
