THOMPSON's MILLS OPEN EXHIBITS

New interior exhibits, one conveying the sights and sounds of its past
mill operations, are now in place at Thompson*s Mills State Heritage
Park, reports ranger Doug Crispin. Visitors can learn about the mill*s
elevators, augers, water and turbine power in two reading rails that are
part of an exhibit titled, *The Simple Process.* Each reading rail
has a small video display screen transmitting the sights and sounds of
the mill. Photos in *The Simple Process* exhibit help identify the
mill's many chutes, hoppers, augers and elevators.

The site*s new *Thriving To Surviving* exhibit also invites
visitor participation. Questions about places and events connected to
the mill appear on a display gear in the center of the exhibit. Another
part of the exhibit uses four, roll-up *curtain-type panels* to show
a timeline and historic photos.

Thompson's Mills is located is located off of Highway 99E, three miles
east of Shedd. It features Oregon's oldest water-powered wheat mill.

CIVIC STADIUM ADDED TO NATIONAL REGISTER

The State Historic Preservation Office has announced the recent listing
of Eugene Civic Stadium in the National Register of Historic Places. The
stadium was listed for its important association with recreation in
Eugene. Constructed in 1938, the stadium is the only known example of a
Depression-era ballpark remaining in Oregon. Built as a cooperative
between the Eugene Chamber of Commerce, Eugene Public School District,
and the Works Progress Administration (WPA), the stadium was designed as
a multi-use facility and has been home to numerous high local ball
games, graduations, and other celebrations.
