OHS FELLOWSHIP DEADLINE OCT. 1

Each year, the Oregon Historical Society offers the Donald J. Sterling
Senior ($2,500) and Graduate ($2,000) research fellowships to support
four weeks of study in our research library. Applicants for the
Fellowship need not be professional historians, but they must have
experience in historical research and writing. The application deadline
is Oct. 1. For more information about the fellowships, including details

GROUPS JOIN TOGETHER TO CREATE TEACHER's FAIR

A fair to help teachers learn how to connect their students with
Pacific Northwest history will take place Oct. 10 in Salem, with an
additional workshop slated for Nov. 5 in Portland.

Nearly 20 organizations are participating in the Oct. 10 teachers' fair
from 1-4 p.m. at Mission Mill Museum. The Portland workshop will take
place Nov. 5 at the Oregon Historical Society from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The
workshop will include an interactive presentation by Oregon State
University graduate student Bryan Rebar on "How to Integrate a Museum
Visit into the Curriculum."

ACTIVITIES PLANNED SEPT. 13 IN ROSEBURG, WEST LINN

Roseburg: The Douglas County Museum, 123 Museum Drive, will host a
"Pioneer Experience" from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Participants may play pioneer
games, perform pioneer chores, and participate in other activities. For

West Linn: The fifth annual Willamette Falls Lock Fest will take place
from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.  The event includes a Willamette Falls history
display,  a Lake Oswego iron furnace history booth, a Confederated
Tribes of Grand Ronde display, a history hunt passport activity for
kids, and other activities. For more information, visit

LINCOLN BICENTENNIAL GROUP ORGANIZING CELEBRATION

The Oregon Lincoln Bicentennial Commission is hosting a History Day
celebration on Feb. 7 at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland. This event
is to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln*s birth and
share the work of organizations that promote history. Organizations are
invited to participate with information booths, presentations, lectures,
music, book-signings,, re-enactments, a special guest from history, a
story book corner for children, door prizes and more. The deadline for
indicating your organization's participation is Sept. 22. For more
