ARCHAEOLOGY CELEBRATION SCHEDULE AVAILABLE ONLINE

A calendar of Oregon Archaeology Celebration events is available online

The activities include lectures, hikes, demonstrations and other
activities. Nancy Nelson of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department
and Jorie Clark of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are co-chairs of
this year's celebration.


PLACE NAMES FEATURED IN JACKSON COUNTY PRESENTATIONS

Anne Billeter will talk about "Roxy Ann: Stories Behind Place Names" in
presentations organized by the Jackson County library system and the
Southern Oregon Historical Society.

She will talk at noon Oct. 7 at the Medford Public Library and noon
Oct. 14 at the Ashland Public Library. The presentations are free and
open to the public.

 
WILSONVILLE HISTORY PLAY PRESENTED FIVE TIMES

"A Ferry Tale of Wilsonville: Oregon's Transportation Town" will be
presented this month by the Wilsonville Theater Co.at the Frogpond
Grange, 27350 SW Stafford Rd. The play was commissioned by the
Wilsonville Arts and Culture Council as an Oregon sesquicentennial
project and includes nine scenes representing different periods of the
town's history.

The performances are scheduled at 7 p.m. on Oct. 2-3 and 9-10, and at 2
p.m. Oct. 3. For information or reservation, call 503-638-6933.


COOS MUSEUM SEEKS ARTISTIC IMPRESSIONS

Until Oct. 3, the Coos Historical & Maritime Museum invites people to
view a piece of Coos County history at the museum,1220 Sherman Ave.,
North Bend.  It is encouraging people to view the object and then create
a piece of art, poetry, or reminiscence inspired by this object. These
creations can be brought to the Coos Historical & Maritime Museum before
Oct. 5 where five will be selected for publication in The World
Newspaper on Oct. 8, Oregon’s Day of Culture. All created works of art
will be displayed at the museum from Oct. 8-31.

Also, the Coos Historical & Maritime Museum will offer free admission

ARCHIVISTS SEEK PROPOSALS FOR JOINT 2010 CONFERENCE

The program committee of the 2010 joint conference of the Conference of
Inter-Mountain Archivists, the Northwest Archivists, the Society of
California Archivists, and the Society of Rocky Mountain Archivists
invites program proposals by Oct. 9. The conference, scheduled for April
28-May 1 in Seattle, will include three days of programs and a day of
pre-conference workshops.
