The Oregon Cultural Trust is asking heritage and other cultural groups to begin planning October Day of Culture activities and prepare information for a searchable database of the events.

Kirk Mouser, who handled the Day of Culture planning in 2008, is again the event coordinator; and the Canoe Group has been hired to conduct a social media campaign through the Trust's existing Facebook and Twitter accounts and to create a Day of Culture website, with a searchable database of events from Oct. 1 - 8. That database will be populated with information provided by local organizations through an online registry that will launch on Sept. 16.

Day of Culture is a more grassroots effort this year, focusing on already-existing programming and/or collaborative community events that local organizations want to organize, Trust officials said. Through the Day of Culture website, social media campaign, publicity, advertising and banners, the Trust will encourage the public to celebrate, participate in and donate to Oregon culture.

That database will be populated with information provided by you that will include link-through to your own Day of Culture, ticket buying and donation pages. There will be a Day of Culture toolkit with logos; poster, sticker and ad templates; sample press releases and newsletter articles so you can promote your Day of Culture.

The Trust will buy advertising and radio underwriting to promote Day of Culture, statewide. In cities that allow it, the Trust will hang Day of Culture banners. The Trust is actively seeking cross-promotional opportunities; please send the Trust ideas and suggestions kimberly.howard at state.or.us .
