Historic stories can take many forms and be used for different interpretive purposes. Some of those forms and purposes will be highlighted during plenary sessions and workshops during the Oregon Heritage Conference April 22-24. Register for the conference and learn about special conference lodging rates at the conference website<http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/HCD/OHC/Pages/Conference.aspx> today.
Here are just a few of the historic story highlights at the Heritage Conference:
n Marc Moscato of Portland's Know Your City will talk about how the nonprofit uses history, the arts and social justice to engage Portlanders in issues of common concern through creative placemaking projects.
n Ryan Schwartz of Full Focus Communications will lead a workshop that explores the science of stories and how they can influence people to be more involved in Oregon's heritage. Another of Schwartz's workshops will explore strategies for social media that build authentic and engaged followings.
n Long-time Coos Bay theatrical group Dolphin Players will perform parts from an upcoming production that tells stories of the community's "Hollering Point" using an old-time radio format.
n Veteran interpretive planner Alice Parman and the University of Oregon Museum of Natural and Cultural History's Lyle Murphy will lead a session where attendees will learn how to use objects to tell stories.
n State Historic Preservation Office staff will lead sessions on how National Register nominations can be used to tell community stories.
