2015 ALICE TRINDLE, SUMPTER VALLEY RAILROAD RECEIVE TOURISM AWARDS

Travel Oregon recently presented recipients with 2014 Travel and Tourism Industry Achievement Awards at the 2015 Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Eugene, including Alice Trindle and the Sumpter Valley Railroad.

Alice Trindle, Executive Director of the Eastern Oregon Visitors Association, received the Governor’s Tourism Award for her passion and decades of service to Oregon’s travel and tourism industry. Trindle, a former chair of the Oregon Heritage Commission, is a champion of building local partnerships and helping the Eastern Oregon region maintain its unique character and charm.

One of only two mobile historic districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Sumpter Valley Railroad received the Oregon Heritage Tourism Award for incorporation of Oregon’s authentic cultural history as a way to draw visitors to the state. Volunteers from across the state pitch in every summer to continue the restoration and operation of the railroad while sharing the history of the railroad and the important role it played during the region’s early timber and mining heyday with visitors.

The annual awards recognize people and organizations across Oregon that go the extra mile to enhance the travel and tourism industry in Oregon. For more information, visit Travel Oregon online<http://industry.traveloregon.com/oregon-governors-conference-on-tourism/>.
