Oregon Heritage is thankful for young heritage stewards like these

Students from Siuslaw Elementary School cleaned and restored 25 headstones at the Deadwood Pioneer Cemetery. This project came from an idea for Siuslaw School District's Kindness Club. Our favorite quote comes from one of the students herself, "I think it's important because they could get forgotten if they're just covered in stuff and no one would know they are there".

Some tips on thanking those that work with, volunteer for, or donate to your organization

Some tips on how to show the people you work with, your volunteers, and your donors that you are thankful for what they do for the organization can be found here<http://nonprofitaf.com/2018/11/being-thankful-is-not-enough-here-are-21-tips-to-help-you-do-a-better-job-thanking-people/?fbclid=IwAR3P65T2kQrvPK8jSHIbJr3k9rrzHaw8EjNEM2pjkwMOZPsEFBQobqEl1XA>.

We have one more tip from Oregon Heritage's Sheri Stuart, Oregon Main Street Coordinator, who uses the "thank them in three ways" rule when it comes to volunteers (including board members). An example of this is thanking someone verbally, sending them a thank you note, and honoring them (along with others) in an appreciation event.

And finally...THANK YOU for all that you do to preserve, promote, and protect Oregon's heritage!

There has been a second round of excavations at the Chinese Shrine at the Salem Pioneer Cemetery and the City of Salem, Friends of the Pioneer Cemetery, Willamette University, the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office want to share the findings with you! (Learn more about the project and the findings from the first round of excavations here<https://oregonheritage.wordpress.com/2018/03/29/chinese-shrine-at-salem-pioneer-cemetery/>.)

The second excavation round examined this research question: Is there brick foundation under the cement part of the existing shrine? Answering this question would give us more information on how, why, and when the Shrine was built.

Come find out what they found on Saturday, Dec. 1, 11am-1pm, at the Salem Pioneer Cemetery, SE Commercial and Hoyt St.
