Introducing our 2019 Oregon Heritage Summit Facilitator
Meet Marc Smiley, facilitator for the 2019 Oregon Heritage Summit on the Culture of Board Engagement!
Marc Smiley is the Principal with Solid Ground Consulting and has been a consultant in Oregon for more 30 years. He specializes in organizational development, strategic planning and fundraising. Marc has worked extensively with nonprofit and public organizations nationally, involved in a spectrum of issues including land and river conservation, energy conservation, affordable housing, historic preservation, and human services. He has held leadership roles with organizations such as Columbia Land Trust, Online Networking for the Environment Northwest (ONE/Northwest, now Groundwire), and REACH Community Development and has served as the Executive Director for the Oregon Natural Resources Council (now Oregon Wild) and the Yakima Greenway Foundation. Marc is also an adjunct professor at the Institute for Nonprofit Management at Portland State University's Hatfield School of Government. Marc has written two books on effective nonprofits: Land Trust Board's: Preparing for Perpetuity, and Building the Foundation of Fundraising Success.

Oregon historic theaters participate in "Coraline" screenings to aid wildlife recovery efforts
It's been 10 years since audiences followed a blue-haired girl to a mysterious Other World in the Oscar(r)-nominated 3D stop-motion fantasy, "Coraline"<https://t.e2ma.net/click/x94ibb/x162xs/diapjl>. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the film, Oregon-based animation studio LAIKA<https://t.e2ma.net/click/x94ibb/x162xs/tabpjl>, in partnership with Oregon Film<https://t.e2ma.net/click/x94ibb/x162xs/92bpjl> and Travel Oregon<https://t.e2ma.net/click/x94ibb/x162xs/pvcpjl>, will offer public screenings of the movie in six historic theaters around the state-from Portland's Hollywood Theatre to the Varsity Theatre in Ashland (the film's fantastical setting). In this combined effort to support wildfire recovery, all box office proceeds will benefit the North Umpqua Trail Project and the Lower Deschutes River Post-Fire Restoration Project.
A true #OregonMade <https://t.e2ma.net/click/x94ibb/x162xs/5ndpjl> classic, "Coraline" transported moviegoers to a place they'd never been before: an animated parallel world full of thrilling adventures and startling secrets. Premiering at the Portland International Film Festival in February 2009, "Coraline" was the first stop-motion animated movie to be conceived and photographed in stereoscopic 3D and was nominated for an Academy Award for Outstanding Animated Feature Film.
"We will always have a deep love and affection for 'Coraline' because it paved the way for the rest of our films," says Travis Knight, LAIKA's President & CEO. "We are thrilled to be part of this anniversary partnership with Oregon Film and Travel Oregon to celebrate our original 3D stop-motion film."

"With the anniversary celebration events, we're showcasing these historical landmarks and helping support and stimulate local economies," says Williams.
