The Oregon Heritage Tradition designation recognizes those events more than 50 years old that represent what it means to be an Oregonian. Historic cemetery events in Florence, July 18


Join the Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries (OCHC) in Florence on July 18 for a public meeting and presentation. All events are free and will take place at Siuslaw Pioneer Museum, 278 Maple Street, in Florence.



The OCHC will kick of the schedule with its quarterly meeting from 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. The agenda includes 2018 grant report, commissioner reports, and future meetings. Interested parties may attend in person or call-in to the meeting. Meetings are accessible to people with disabilities. Special accommodations and translation may be arranged up to 72 hours in advance of the meeting by calling 503-986-0690.



A presentation will follow the meeting from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Charlotte Lehan, of Wilsonville, and Bev Power, of Medford, both commissioners with OCHC, will present "Adventures in Mapping Historic Cemeteries." They will present interesting challenges, surprise discoveries and other issues in mapping and documenting historic cemeteries.



OCHC maintains a list of all historic cemeteries in the state. A cemetery must include the burial of at least one person who died before Feb. 14, 1909 to qualify as historic. The seven-member appointed commission helps people and organizations document, preserve and promote designated historic cemeteries statewide.

The Special Collections and Archives Research Center at Oregon State University Libraries seeks a service-oriented, user-focused Public Services Unit Supervisor with a strong commitment to access to lead our public services operations. Reporting to the Director of the Special Collections and Archives Research Center, the Public Services Unit Supervisor has primary responsibility for managing and coordinating all reading room and remote reference activities. In conjunction with department colleagues, this position provides effective research support, optimizes access systems, and proposes new services and workflows as appropriate.

The successful candidate will demonstrate ability for and commitment to providing responsive, personable, and expert public service. The Public Services Unit Supervisor will join a dynamic team of professionals dedicated to collaboratively advancing the Center's educational and access missions. Working closely with curators and other department staff, the Supervisor interacts positively and inclusively with students, faculty, and the public, guiding users in how to find, use, and evaluate relevant resources, explaining techniques, policies, and procedures, and empowering individuals to conduct archival research. The Supervisor is a professional faculty member in the Oregon State University Libraries and Press, developing and nurturing relationships with colleagues inside and outside the library, and participate in shared governance of OSULP and OSU.

The position supervises one Library Technician 3 classified position and a rotation of student assistants with public service duties. The position mobilizes these resources and others to establish a welcoming and secure environment, data-driven operations, and public service excellence in a lively special collections environment.

Regional Arts and Culture Council seeks Director of Advancement and Innovate Partnerships

The Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) is seeking a Director of Advancement and Innovative Partnerships to lead the organization's efforts to raise approximately $2 million per year from individuals, foundations, businesses and government sources.

Status: Full time (40+ hours/week), Exempt
Schedule: Generally M-F, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some events on evenings and weekends
Supervisor: Executive Director
Compensation: $70,000 to $90,000 per year

  *   Supervises and supports a team of 2-3 staff (plus contractors as needed) to raise approximately $2 million year through foundations, corporate sponsorships, employee giving and grassroots fundraising campaigns, major gift strategies, special events, and other mechanisms.
  *   Harnesses the impact and marketability of RACC's program offerings to build a clear and compelling value proposition for funders.
  *   Sets the tone for best practices in donor stewardship, appreciation, and moves management.
  *   Helps the organization innovate its development practices, build new partnerships, and diversify RACC's revenue streams beyond traditional fundraising approaches.
  *   Brings passion and experience serving as a brand ambassador for RACC's mission and values.
  *   Celebrates and embodies the relationship between RACC's fundraising goals and the organization's ability to create opportunities for every Portland-area resident to participate in culture, creativity and the arts.

Restore Oregon's 2019 Heritage Barn Workshop, Sept. 14 in Bend

On Saturday, September 14, Restore Oregon will host their annual 2019 Heritage Barn Workshop where barn owners will learn practical solutions from experts on how to maintain, rehabilitate, and adapt old barns for today's needs. Attendees will learn about the history and construction of barns as well as maintenance, stabilization, funding opportunities, and preservation. The workshop will also highlight the crucial steps toward transitioning the family farm to future generations. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to experience live hand-hewing demonstrations by David Rogers, founder and operator of Logs & Timbers, LLC, who has over 40 years experience in log building restoration.

Heritage barns are an iconic symbol of Oregon's agricultural and rural heritage. With the rapid changes in farming and ranching, diminishing resources, and loss of skilled craftspeople with knowledge of barn preservation and restoration, there is a special urgency for preservationists to partner with the agricultural community. Restore Oregon, through its Heritage Barns Task Force formed in 2011, has made it a priority to bring together the state's most well-versed experts to share their experiences and skills. We are honored to offer this opportunity to support Oregon ranchers, farmers, barn owners, barn enthusiasts, and their allies in sharing their passion for our agricultural heritage and their ability to retain and enhance its usefulness into the future.

Oregon Museums Association 2019 Conference open for registration!

Registration is open for OMA's 2019 Annual Conference: Finding Common Ground.

Jennifer Fang is the Assistant Director and Manager of Programs at the Portland Chinatown History Foundation, a partnership between Chinatown community elders and academic historians to preserve and tell the overlooked history of Chinese people in the region. In December 2018, the Foundation opened the Portland Chinatown Museum. Through a broad array of exhibitions and programming related to Chinese American history and Asian American arts, the museum honors Portland Chinatown's past, celebrates its present, and helps to create its future.
