NEXT TUESDAY ask an Oregon Heritage Mentor about handling & care of Paper materials & conducting simple repairs
Materials made out of paper can be some of the most sensitive and fragile items in our collections and despite the best care, sometimes repairs become necessary. Do you need advice on next steps for handling, storage, care, or conservation of your paper materials or bound collections? Join us on January 17th and 12pm to ask our MentorCorps mentor, Dave Hegeman, Special Collections Librarian at the State Library of Oregon.
Register for the Q&A session here!<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fus06web.zoom.us%2Fmeeting%2Fregister%2FtZcpdu6tqjkqEtWi2lwRoG5Ns4ebIGjiqnZq&data=05%7C01%7CKatie.HENRY%40oprd.oregon.gov%7C840b932138914dcc091708daefa415b9%7Caa3f6932fa7c47b4a0cea598cad161cf%7C0%7C0%7C638085785310341176%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=nOkXEKWAHhle1tn6bkkXi9jHC8UI%2By303%2FPFQUUp%2FR4%3D&reserved=0>
This Q&A session is hosted by Oregon Heritage's MentorCorps program. MentorCorps is a trained group of volunteers with professional experience in collections care, emergency management, and non-profit management. This program is overseen and supported by the Oregon Heritage Commission.
About Our Mentor:
Dave has an academic background in Art History and has spent his career in libraries at universities as well as public institutions. For 13+ years he has been the Special Collections Librarian at the State Library of Oregon managing historic books, photographic collections, and a small archive. He has been the individual in charge of preventative care of historic paper-based collections working with book mending volunteers. Dave also has extensive experience managing library collections as well as planning book and photographic exhibits.

Oregon Heritage Commission to meet on Jan. 23 at the Oregon Military Museum in Clackamas

SALEM, Oregon - The Oregon Heritage Commission will meet Jan. 22-23 in Clackamas at the Oregon Military Museum. The agenda<https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/OH/Pages/Commissions.aspx#OHC> includes field trips in the local area on Jan. 22 and the business meeting on Jan. 23.

Respond to the AASLH National Visitation Survey
National Visitation Survey Now Open. Your Response Helps Your Organization and the Field
The fifth annual American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) "National Visitation Survey for History Organizations" is now accepting responses! This yearly research effort provides the history community with high-quality data and insights on public engagement with our organizations, supporting institutional benchmarking, advocacy, and more.

The report provides benchmarks by which history leaders can assess visitation at their own institution, while it also provides a broader understanding of public engagement with history in a way that supports advocacy, fundraising, resource development, and more.

Last year, the Visitation Report<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2F458rl1jp.r.us-east-1.awstrack.me%2FL0%2Fhttp%3A%252F%252Fdownload.aaslh.org%252F2022%252BAASLH%252BNVR%252BFull%252BReport_final.pdf%2F2%2F01000185a6934e52-9c03e0b9-0d23-43c0-80dc-c070fd48a0df-000000%2FSKCuWG-Rj8tfMfNQtdUUGDOGGhA%3D304&data=05%7C01%7CKatie.HENRY%40oprd.oregon.gov%7C93330ff5014e44ad65b508daf4b0d49d%7Caa3f6932fa7c47b4a0cea598cad161cf%7C0%7C0%7C638091338048088889%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=WizPu%2FWCQZ0SPVp%2Ba5Ppuyac8d8sT8xOVXYJ0%2Fp62jw%3D&reserved=0> revealed that while visits to history organizations increased considerably from their lows at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, they still remained well below the levels reported before 2020. As the field continues to grapple with the ways the pandemic has affected staffing, funding, and other areas of institutional operations-and as fraught conversations about the nature of history continue to animate public discourse-this survey offers an important mechanism for assessing the impact of these shifts.

In order to track ongoing changes and to appropriately represent the incredible diversity of the nation's more than 21,000 history organizations, we need your help. Please take ten minutes to respond to this year's survey, helping your colleagues and the field in the process.
The survey will remain open through March 15.

Oregon Heritage Note: Promoting the value of heritage is one of the four goals of the 2020-2025 Oregon Heritage Plan. Tracking visitor data can help you speak to the value of your heritage organization and you can see direct evidence of this in the recently released Economic Impacts and Value of Oregon's Heritage Organizations and Events Report<https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/OH/Documents/Economic_Impact_Report_web.pdf> & communications tool<https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/OH/Documents/Econ_Impact_Comm_tool_web.pdf>.
