MOOT open for Jan. 15 event, historic Arch
Bridge photos available
The Clackamas
County Historical Society (CCHS) celebrates the historic Arch Bridge over the
Willamette River by offering reprints of our historic photographic images available for a donation
beginning Jan. 15, when the Museum of the Oregon Territory (MOOT) also
will be
open for the Arch Bridge ceremony hosted by the Willamette Falls
Heritage Area
Coalition (WFHAC).
CCHS opens
the museum 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, in conjunction with the
bridge
ceremony later that day. CCHS will have renown early 20th-century photographer Ralph Eddy's images of the Arch Bridge and salmon fishers at Willamette Falls in poster and print form. MOOT also will display the Norris collection, a
trio
of Arch Bridge paintings in a variety of media. One of the paintings is
by noteworthy
artist Mike Bagetta who also created the state’s Crater Lake license
plate.
The Oregon
Department of Transportation (ODOT) is closing the iconic 1922 Arch
Bridge,
which links West Linn and Oregon City, for a two-year restoration
project. WFHAC
offers the public a unique opportunity to walk the length of the historic Arch Bridge from 2 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 15 when it closes for restoration.
The event commemorates the bridge, which serves
as a vital link between communities, and efforts underway to create a
National
Heritage Area around the Willamette Falls. Native American storytellers
and
dancers from the Grand Ronde Tribe, local artists who draw inspiration
from the
river, and roving presenters weaving tales of the pioneer days, will be
featured
during the event.
The Willamette
Falls Heritage Area Coalition is working to become a
National Heritage Area
to protect, enhance, share, and enjoy the
region defined by the
Willamette River between the mouths of the Tualatin River and Clackamas
River.
Visit the WFHAC website, at www.wfheritage.org, for
information.
