Or brought back 10 friends to visit and wrote a letter to the editor of the newspaper praising your organization? You can make it happen soon. A two-hour workshop on the opening day of the Oregon Heritage Conference is designed to help you, your organization and your community become the stars of customer service, a quality highly valued in today's consumer society. Star performers give that little something extra that attracts people. Learn how your museum, downtown, store, theater, and performance hall can be more welcoming and pleasantly memorable. Make your community known by word of mouth for its star qualities and repeat visitors. You can make it happen by attending this workshop given by Paul Paz of Waitersworld, who loves to have everyone have fun in his workshops and who will give great tips and opportunities for fun at this workshop created just for Oregon's heritage community. Paz is the author of the book "Service At Its Best - Waiter Waitress Training: A Guide to Becoming a Successful Server". He has been the Oregon Restaurant Employee of the Year, has trained steamboat crews and heritage businesses, and helped thousands learn better ways of giving service to visitors. The public invited to attend the awards presentation. The awards will be presented at 7 p.m. April 8 in Astoria at the Oregon Heritage Conference. Oregon Heritage Commission coordinator Kyle Jansson said the award recipients are considered model individuals, projects and organizations. They were judged on their abilities to produce the most from available resources. The recipients will be: -- Luper Cemetery Preservation and Restoration Project, Eugene, for its extraordinary efforts to preserve and restore the integrity of the historic cemetery. -- The Timberline Lodge Partnership of the U.S. Forest Service, The Friends of Timberline, and R.L.K and Co., for an outstanding public-private collaboration to steward and preserve a national historic landmark. -- Clatsop Community College/Columbia Pacific Preservation, for the collaboration that resulted in the establishment of certificate and degree programs in historic preservation at Clatsop CC and in a nonprofit entity that both supports and benefits from those programs. -- Paul Caruana and Brian Faherty, Astoria, for their collective improvements on the Norblad and Lewis buildings, and the even larger impact their work has had on the renewed viability of downtown Astoria. -- Marcia Allen, Cottage Grove, for her lifetime accomplishments in researching, interpreting and promoting the history and heritage of Cottage Grove. -- Patsy Jones, Alsea, for her exceptional work to inspire interest in the documentation, preservation and celebration of local Oregon history. -- Neal Maine, Seaside, for his outstanding contributions in the preservation of Native American archaeological sites on the northern Oregon coast. The awards ceremony will also include the re-enactment of a 1911 woman?s suffrage debate. The Oregon Heritage Excellence Awards are a project of the Heritage Programs Division of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, which includes the Oregon Heritage Commission. Commission chair George Kramer says the awards are intended to draw public attention to important heritage efforts in Oregon and to raise the quality of heritage-oriented activities. Attendees are encouraged to dress in 1911 styles or in movie theme clothing to reflect the conference?s theme of ?A Blockbuster Community: Heritage, Vision and Authenticity?. I know that Kasi had already sent an email to the address you had forwarded asking to be set up with a carpool down to Salem. We've had some experience this legislative session in talking with the legislatoirs, and Kasi has testified before one of the Senate committees. - Frank --- On Wed, 3/30/11, historiccemeteries-request at listsmart.osl.state.or.us wrote: From: historiccemeteries-request at listsmart.osl.state.or.us Subject: HistoricCemeteries Digest, Vol 21, Issue 6 To: historiccemeteries at listsmart.osl.state.or.us Date: Wednesday, March 30, 2011, 12:00 PM Send HistoricCemeteries mailing list submissions to historiccemeteries at listsmart.osl.state.or.us ( http://us.mc528.mail.yahoo.com/mc/compose?to=historiccemeteries at listsmart.osl.state.or.us ) To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://listsmart.osl.state.or.us/mailman/listinfo/historiccemeteries or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to historiccemeteries-request at listsmart.osl.state.or.us ( http://us.mc528.mail.yahoo.com/mc/compose?to=historiccemeteries-request at listsmart.osl.state.or.us ) You can reach the person managing the list at historiccemeteries-owner at listsmart.osl.state.or.us ( http://us.mc528.mail.yahoo.com/mc/compose?to=historiccemeteries-owner at listsmart.osl.state.or.us ) When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of HistoricCemeteries digest..."
