ACTIVE LIVING RESOURCE CENTER LAUNCHES WEBSITE

-> The Active Living Resource Center is pleased to announce a new web
site targeted to groups that want to improve their communities'
pedestrian and bicycling environment. The ALRC web site was developed
and is managed by the National Center for Bicycling & Walking (NCBW)
under a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Sharon Roerty, ALRC's Director said, "The site focuses on the needs of
everyday people who join PTAs, neighborhood associations, and downtown
business alliances. These people are looking for ways to make their
neighborhoods safer for kids walking to school or biking to the park.
They need to know how to create better pedestrian and bicycle
accommodations. At the bottom of every big project is someone with an
idea, some one thing they wanted to do to change their neighborhood,
their community for the better. Our goal with this site is to make it
easier for community champions to get something started and, ultimately,
help create communities where active living is the norm not the
remarkable exception. "

What makes this site different is the concentration on simple resources
-- 'walking school bus' tips, funding sources for Safe Routes programs,

and easy-to-build bike racks."

Advertisers Are Gonna Get'cha
Consumers today encounter from 3,500 to 5,000 marketing messages per
day, vs. 500 to 2,000 in the 1970s, according to J. Walker Smith,
president of consumer and marketing watcher Yankelovich. Advertisers
are beginning to realize how much consumers actively avoid this barrage

and they're changing their tactics so you won't be able to escape, even
if you have Tivo. Get the scoop on some of their new strategies.
