Subject: Review of Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) on Corporal Punishment and Physical Restraint

The Department of Education is seeking input from educators and interested parties on the need for more detailed rules on the use of physical restraint and aversive interventions. The Office of Special Education has prepared a memo outlining the issues and various considerations, along with examples of more detailed rules from other states. This memo is now posted to the ODE website at: http://www.ode.state.or.us/sped/new/corporalpunishmentmemo.pdf.

You may submit your views on this issue directly to Suzy Harris, OSE legal specialist, at mailto:suzy.harris at state.or.us.

If you would be interested in participating in a focus group or working group to review the input and advise the Department about next steps, please let Ms. Harris know.
