The English and Spanish Talking and Books and Talking and Play DVDs will soon be available at the State Library for you to check out via your library's ILL process. I will send out an announcement via kids-lib and libs-or as soon as they are available.

We want to let stakeholders in early literacy and language development know that we now have Vietnamese, Filipino (Tagalog), English with subtitles, Mandarin, Mandarin with Chinese subtitles, and Korean video materials available in DVD format. They were previously available only in VHS format. The sets cost $179 per language, and we allow and encourage copying of the materials.
Also, by he end of October (or hopefully sooner) we will have new free parent-child activity handouts for children in the birth-to-three year age range available for downloading on our website. They will be posted on the website next to the existing free activities for older children.
Early Literacy and Language Development Videos
LANGUAGE IS THE KEY
"Talking and Books" and "Talking and Play"
Language is the Key is an evidence-based program that helps staff show parents how to encourage young children (birth to five) to talk and build the foundation for literacy.
Sets in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Mandarin, and Filipino
To preview the English and Spanish versions of the video program "Talking and Books" online, please go to www.walearning.com.
Each Language is the Key set includes two 20-minute videos and a manual for conducting staff and parent workshops. Materials are effective with diverse groups of children, including children with language delays. Parents are encouraged to support the child's first language at home.
Each set costs $179 (plus $8 shipping/handling per set). Each set includes Talking and Books (20min VHS or DVD), Talking and Play (20min VHS or DVD) and one manual for trainers.
We want these materials out there and used so
We encourage unlimited copying of the video programs.
(Copies cannot be sold.)
