Hello! I just received the following email about a professional development opportunity I thought many of you may be interested in. It's an online course on connecting with the Spanish-speaking community if you don't speak Spanish. It costs $70 which may see like a lot, but this is a 4 week course rather than a couple hours of training one day and it's online so you don't have to travel. Read the email below for details.

This course began with the realization that our population is changing and with a question. If I don't speak Spanish how do I do outreach to the Spanish-Speaking Community? Another title for this course is Everything I need to know before offering programs especially bilingual storytimes.

Katie Cunningham has been working to connect Spanish-speakers and libraries since her career began at the Columbus Metropolitan Library in 2006. A pilot project she launched following a Webjunction Spanish Language Outreach (SLO) training workshop became that organization’s first Spanish Language Program Specialist position. Katie’s work was recognized by Webjunction as the best outreach project of an SLO participant in 2007. Katie currently works as the Children’s Librarian at the unique and innovative Village Branch of the Lexington Public Library, which provides a completely bilingual staff and a service model that is highly responsive to community needs. More information about Katie and her work can be found on her blog, ¡Es Divertido Hablar Dos Idiomas! found at http://www.bilingualchildrensprogramming.blogspot.com/<UrlBlockedError.aspx>
