SALARY RANGE: $22.10 - $29.62 per hour

40 hours per week

ABOUT THE JOB: Beaverton City Library @ Murray Scholls is expanding in fall 2014! We are adding more dedicated space for youth services collections and programs and are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative librarian who will build upon our outstanding programming, provide outreach, and serve as a connection between the Murray Scholls branch and Beaverton City Library Youth Services division. We seek a customer-service oriented librarian to join the Murray Scholls team. The ideal candidate will have strong programming abilities; will establish and maintain strong relationships with three local elementary schools; will be fearless when innovating and trying new ideas; will possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with people from diverse backgrounds, including children, teens, families, volunteers, and coworkers; will have excellent understanding and application of early literacy principals and its importance to the individual, the community, and the vital role the library plays in developing early literacy in youth; and will have strong reader's advisory skills for children and teens.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: A Youth Services Librarian works in a variety of settings mostly inside the library and occasionally outside, serving diverse patrons by developing and implementing programs for kids and teens and providing multiple storytimes; answering reference and reader's advisory questions; maintaining the children's room; developing a small assigned area of the library's collection using data and research. This position requires evening and weekend work.

TO QUALIFY: Requires a Master's degree in library science from an American Library Association accredited school with some professional library experience serving children and teens.

Requires knowledge of practices, tools and techniques for a Youth Services Librarian including book selection tools and systems, and reference tools used in a library environment. Requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public and good understanding of technology, including e-readers, and social media trends and their use in a library environment.

Requires a valid driver's license and the ability to meet the City's driving standards.
