[kids-lib] Sick and tired of the same old SRP? Here are 17 different ways to run an SRP!

Summer is only about half over... Are you already sick and tired of the same old reading logs (or whatever you always do)? Are you thinking, "I've got to do something different next year or I'll go crazy?"

Remember, basing your summer reading program research<http://www.oregon.gov/osl/LD/Pages/youthsvcs/summerreading/researchresources.aspx> should increase the positive impact it has on youth and your community:

*         Youth who chose their own books read more and read better

*         Youth who have a regular habit of reading do better on reading tests

*         Listening to stories read aloud/audio books about three levels above their reading level introduces new vocabulary and more complex narrative skills important for gaining skills needed to improve reading

*         Youth learn better when their family is engaged in their learning

*         Youth are motivate to read and reading is more relevant to them when it is connected to activities they like to do, topics they are curious about, and engaging with their peers

*         The ABCs of effective summer reading are

o   Access to books

o   Books that match their interests and reading level

o   Comprehension develop by adults asking questions/having conversations with youth about what they are reading
