[kids-lib] Competencies for Librarians Serving Children updated!

Hi! ALA's Association for Library Services to Children (ALSC) has updated the Competencies for Librarians Serving Children in Public Libraries<http://www.ala.org/alsc/edcareeers/alsccorecomps> (you don't need to download the pdf, just scroll down and they are listed right on this webpage<http://www.ala.org/alsc/edcareeers/alsccorecomps>.

What are competencies? The things children's library staff (with or without an MLS!) should know and be able to do.

How can I use the competencies? Read through the list, rate how well you are doing on each one (no one is perfect, even those of us with degrees need to improve in some of these areas-be honest with yourself!), and talk to your supervisor about it. Make sure your supervisor knows what competencies you're good at and ask to get training in one or two of the competencies you want to work on improving.
