I thought some of you might be interested in the following opportunity to attend ALA’s Association for Library Services to Children’s Virtual Institute. This is a unique experience to participate in a national virtual conference for children’s library staff. Typically this conference is face-to-face so this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity.—Katie

Registration is now open for the 2016 ALSC Virtual Institute<http://www.ala.org/alsc/2016-alsc-virtual-institute>, which takes place September 15-16, 2016. Maybe you need ten reasons why registering is an amazing idea?

No problem. Got you covered. In no specific order:

Virtual Institute Top Ten
1. It’s entirely online. There’s no special software. All you need to attend is a computer and an internet browser.
2. It features an amazing lineup of events and topics. Check out the agenda<http://www.ala.org/alsc/virtual-institute-agenda>. It’s a healthy mixture of presentations focusing on programming, partnerships, and serving all ages in your library.
3. You’ll get immediate access to the archived session. All registered users retain access to the Virtual Institute programs for up to a year after the event.
4. The Big Ideas Keynote Session featuring Kate Gallagher. Sponsored by the Carole D. Fiore Leadership Fund, this event will focus on how using children’s literature can lead to better understanding of social justice.<http://www.ala.org/alsc/virtual-institute-education-programs>
5. It offers sneaky-good networking. Can’t afford to attend a conference thousands of miles away? You can see your friends and colleagues online! Registrants have the opportunity to network through moderated discussion forums after each program.
6. The affordability. Discounts for ALSC members, ALA members, students, and groups.
7. ALSC has made it easier for you to convince your supervisor. You can download the Virtual Institute supervisor letter<http://www.ala.org/alsc/sites/ala.org.alsc/files/content/Virtual%20Institute16%20Supervisor%20Letter.docx>, which contains valuable information on how the Virtual Institute will improve your skills!
8. You can register online right up to the day it starts. Like to take your time with decisions? No problem. Late planner? No problem!
9. It’s a tailor-made all-staff training event. If you’re a youth services manager, you can invite your staff to participate in this great event.
10. It’s focused solely on children’s librarianship. Whether your a children’s librarian, school librarian, teacher, or other, the Virtual Institute is one of the only online conferences that is laser-focused on youth librarianship.
