Have you already started planning for this year’s Día celebrations? El Día de los Niños/El Día de los Libros is a celebration of children and reading across all language and cultures. While it is intended to be celebrated all year long, April 30 marks a special day of nationwide events. ALSC has a number of resources ready to support your events, all available at dia.ala.org.

Here are links to some of the great content found there:

Fact Sheet:<http://dia.ala.org/fact-sheet>

Learn about the history and goals of Día.

Free Program Downloads:<http://dia.ala.org/content/free-program-downloads>

Explore resources including the publicity toolkit, web badges, coloring sheets, activity ideas, and booklists with groupings by grade on “Building STEAM with Día” and a “20 Years of Día.” Don’t miss the special Book Day Cake recipe!

Program Registry:<http://dia.ala.org/content/national-d%C3%ADa-program-registry>

Join the Día community by entering your event in the program registry. See what your colleagues are cooking-up and share your plans to inspire others! Use the searchable map to see program locations and previous years’ program descriptions as well.

Now that you have all these tools to plan and publicize a fantastic Día event, there’s something more to consider. Your planning reflects work on multiple ALSC Core Competencies<http://www.ala.org/alsc/edcareeers/alsccorecomps>: Commitment to Client Group (1,2), Programming Skills (1, 5), and Knowledge, Curation and Management of Materials (2) to mention a few!

Jennifer Duffy, a Children’s Services Librarian at King County Library System, is writing this post on behalf of the Public Awareness Committee. She can be reached at jduffy at kcls.org<mailto:jduffy at kcls.org>.
