Hi folks,

The State Library recently received a number of western state maps donated from a university collection. They're not too heavy, they'd be super for modpodge or other art projects, and if you'd like them for a library project, please contact Arlene directly. She's got more info in the e-mail below. We weren't quite sure how many folks would be interested in these and don't have money to ship them to you, but please let us know if you're interested, we can work something out! We'll go on a first come, first served basis, so please speak up if you'd like!

Happy Tuesday,

Greta B

The State Library is discarding approximately 500 surplus maps showing topographic information from the Bureau of Land Management from a variety of western states (except Oregon).
Here is an example: https://www.blm.gov/download/file/fid/14404

Typically, the maps are 55 x 95 cm. Most of the maps have a blank side that could be used for drawing. Also, there could be some interest in cutting up the maps and using the graphics from the map in other kinds of arts and craft projects. Some are currently folded, but many are flat or are in rolls.

There are some other miscellaneous maps from other federal agencies available covering other states. They are mostly related to natural resources topics. There are also a few navigational charts that show waterway navigation.

Due to laws related to public property, we can only donate the material to organizations that will not re-sell them. Rather than sending them straight to recycling, we would like to donate them if they could be useful for hands-on activities.

Ideally, we would prefer that the maps be picked up from the State Library. However, we are willing to work with individual libraries to determine other possible methods of delivery, depending on the size of requests.

If interested, contact Arlene Weible arlene.weible at state.or.us<mailto:arlene.weible at state.or.us>. Please include in your email what type and how many maps you would like to request.
