Please pardon the cross-posting.

Hi,

I shared this information on the OASL listserv and thought some of you might be interested in it, too.

2020 Talking Equity and Social Justice: Free Booktalks for Educators and Parents: June 30 (K-5) and July 2 (Gr. 6 - Adult)
Are you looking for some good new books to share with youth on topics like diversity, equity and social responsibility? Multnomah County School Corps Librarian Cathy Camper will share quick booktalks for educators and parents on titles that address these topics. She will also share tips about using books to promote equity. Online lists of the books will be provided. This is a two-part webinar, with part one covering materials for grades K-5 (limited space available), and part two for grades 6-adult. Part one is June 30 and part two is July 2. Register<https://multcolib.org/events/talking-equity-and-social-justice-online-booktalks-educators-and-parents> for either or both. A recording will be available after each presentation.

PLA's EDI and Social Justice Twitter Chat on July 1
"Save the date<https://twitter.com/ALA_PLA/status/1274012836092620801>! Join us on July 1 at noon Central for a live Twitter chat on equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice in library workforce, facilitated by PLA's Task Force on #EDISJ. Participate by tweeting #chatPLA and #libraryworkers."

DOJ's Community Conversations about Racism and Bias throughout July
The Oregon Department of Justice will host in July an online series called Community Conversations<https://www.doj.state.or.us/oregon-department-of-justice/bias-crimes/community-conversations/>. Eleven sessions are planned, each with its own focus like Black/African American, Latinx, LGBTQIA, Native American, and Undocumented/Migrant Farm Worker. Protocols will be in place to help make the online discussions a safe place to share. As part of that, sessions will not be recorded.

ALA Webinars about Reading, Race, and Great Stories Club on July 29
"Join ALA's Public Programs Office for a one-hour webinar to learn about free ALA book club resources that can help us navigate these difficult conversations and critically examine race and privilege" The first webinar<https://programminglibrarian.org/learn/reading-and-talking-about-race-intro-ala%E2%80%99s-great-stories-club-part-1-deeper-our-skins> is full, but you can register to be notified when the recording is available. The second webinar<https://programminglibrarian.org/learn/reading-and-talking-about-race-intro-ala%E2%80%99s-great-stories-club-part-2-finding-your-voice> will be on July 29 and is about the Finding Your Voice collection.

Thanks,
Jen
