Hello everyone,
I hope the first week of December (with shorter daytime light but perhaps more time to read at night?) is treating you well. Per usual, lots of great things happening around the state this week!
I met this morning with folks from the Department of Early Learning and Care working on revising the Early Learning and Kindergarten Guidelines<https://www.oregon.gov/ode/students-and-family/Transitioning-to-Kindergarten/Documents/ODE_EarlyLearningStandards_final.pdf> - In every community meeting about this project, they are hearing how important libraries are. This team is looking forward to making sure library feedback is included in those revisions, which will include new guidelines for ages 0-3! They were especially happy to hear about things like Happy Valley working with their ESD for health screenings taking place at the same time as storytime. <https://www.facebook.com/HappyValleyLibrary/posts/pfbid0mkjt1qsynxFX4WVQcfrjxtrtQPd1wevLV8Vj3D2EzNcHVJBaYxub7j3D3kbN8RS4l> This may seem simple, but it's such a good use of community resources and excellent partnership at work.
Teens are also making news - in Adams, library advisory board teens<https://www.facebook.com/adamsoregon/posts/pfbid0v24hT4L7vbmrj5RbUGRxh1PYvX8FfqoPRNEoCUrrScHq1omXyqdMhcKygHf7LWJRl> are using snow shoveling services to raise money for programs and events. Two Lake Oswego teens interviewed library director Melissa Kelly<https://www.lakeoswegoreview.com/news/why-don-t-we-start-that-two-lake-oswego-teenagers-launch-let-s-go-lo/article_22e76f14-ad0b-11ef-80b9-d740450c82cb.html> for their new podcast.
Last but not least, Oregon Community Foundation awarded some community grants, and libraries are on the list<https://oregoncf.org/news/oregon-nonprofits-receive-5-8-million-funding-boost>! Coquille, Jefferson County Library District, Josephine, Curry, and Marion and Polk Early Learning Hub (I may have missed a couple, apologies in advance!) are working on library-related projects!
Thanks so much for all you do and continue to do, even in the short days of winter - we appreciate you all over here.
Best,
Greta
