Hi folks,
Happy Friday, all! I hope the weather has not kept you from leaving your house - plenty of ice and snow around to remind us winter is still here. You may have spied Kate Lasky shoveling snow on library sidewalks<https://www.facebook.com/JosephineCommunityLibrary/posts/pfbid0vhXNKWF1up4vWvG1C2cLuqn4gBzafrAMwzpUXUMmxj49TQGmXzLzzM1iWN8VR2mMl>, which definitely deserves a shoutout. (I think the "other duties as assigned" job category was created especially for library staff!)
There's been a lot of good stuff on the east side this week: LaGrande is hosting an Eastern Oregon University art exhibit<https://www.lagrandeobserver.com/community/eastern-oregon-university-student-art-on-display-at-cook-memorial-library/article_7775c32c-e105-11ef-a1a2-e36c39fd7298.html>. The Dalles hosted a cooking class for elementary kids<https://columbiacommunityconnection.com/the-dalles/wasco-public-library-hosts-kid-friendly-cooking-class-with-tdhs-chefs> taught by high schoolers. Harney County opened their new makerspace<https://www.facebook.com/harneycountylibrary/posts/pfbid0N8JL42MwixP9QUzADNmPv84voM4Sbw52cPiVUxq731jSVi7pEjP3U6vZktfHJcUml> to cheers and applause. Baker County got some good fan mail<https://www.facebook.com/BCLD.BakerLibrary/posts/pfbid02GX54bFrwcFfrMyq1Lf8LMACDYGM6VbWr31ETFMhFXDxA82L3JNmx1dEmcsxUfFPyl>. Pendleton offers a special needs family time<https://www.facebook.com/pendletonpubliclibrary/posts/pfbid02ejkK5KtwL9pw2zigzq2hLpP7sKrTBGCUzgEhXKDNPErXDaijyaejpGM3zDrSo3L3l> to make sure all families get what they need.
To help beat the wintertime/ice and snow blues, there is a lot of music coming our way - Deschutes hosts an all-ages singalong<https://www.facebook.com/deschuteslibrary/posts/pfbid056PHCh2fhEndpzvt9ZL2zzHgx9bVhfnRxbEV5FQpxW1BabNXt7SL8SgVazdBkvKCl>, Albany is hosting a Wicked singalong<https://www.facebook.com/albanypubliclibrary/posts/pfbid02oupYQRtDsKAFkWzsdwaAxzyi77am4BJzqi9UsLwSneJWH5XR65xo8rkDpP7cYRqTl> (sign me up!), and next week North Tillamook hosts storytimes with professional musicians<https://www.tillamookheadlightherald.com/community/musical-storytime-at-north-tillamook-library/article_2fa7d092-e297-11ef-8079-7399b06230a6.html>.
Lastly, I leave you with this intriguing story about cataloguing Oregon's truffles at the University of Oregon<https://news.uoregon.edu/sibling-scientists-and-their-dog-hunt-for-oregons-hidden-truffle-biodiversity>. I probably keep thinking about it because I really need a dog at my house, but it's a great reminder we are lucky to live in such an ecologically rich place, with people working to understand, share, and treasure it. Thanks for all the work you are doing to keep people sharing and coming together. Have a good weekend!
Best,
Greta
