Hi everyone,
At today's Summer Reading office hours, we touched on a variety of topics - from what Resource Guide materials we're using, to how we're theming. Games of all kinds came up, from tabletop role-playing games to board games, and physical games - one library mentioned the big size version of Connect 4 and others that could be fun to set up for a library field day. Another mentioned using the Reading Dragons game for kids (cards in the Resource Guide, Webinar here<https://www.ila.org/events/ila-noon-network/reading-dragons-and-friends> ) and big versions of Battleship and Sudoku for tracking older participants. One library talked about using "Level Up" as a way to get better at something - they're having a hulu hooper come for a program, that seems like a super fun approach to the theme and such a great idea for summer, to have a chance to practice something you enjoy. I'm curious about asking your community about their favorite family games and what they'd say, and I'm curious about anyone incorporating any sports into this summer.
* If you haven't seen it yet, the Programming Development chapter of the Resource Guide<https://www.ireadprogram.org/resources/summer-2025-level-up-at-your-library> has a TON of links to game ideas/resources specifically for libraries. Please get in touch if you need help accessing the Guide!
* Washington State Library has a great Tabletop LibGuide<https://washstatelib.libguides.com/ttrpg4all/resources> to go along with their grant program.
* And one person mentioned this Game of Life idea<https://www.portmoodylibrary.ca/en/programs-and-events/adult-summer-reading-club-2022.aspx> from Port Moody Library as a potential for adult programming.
What's Next:
Next week, we'll meet at Noon on Wednesday March 5th, here's the link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86446248960
Our focus is logistics and statistics! Bring any and all stats questions! What data are you collecting, why, how it's informing your programming choices. What are you curious about? What do you wish you had more information on for summer? Anyone love their logistical plan for summer - wanna share?
Any and all library staff who interact with summer reading are welcome.
Best,
Greta
