K-12 School Librarian
Closes:
Maupin, OR

SOUTH WASCO COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT #1, PO Box 346, Maupin, OR 97037.
Tom Rinearson, Superintendent Telephone: (541)395-2645 Charlotte
Hawkins, Deputy Clerk Fax: (541)395-2679

We are hoping to hire a K-12 librarian for the upcoming school year and
would like to create a list of possible applicants for the position.
Like most things in the State right now; knowing our funding level for
next year will impact if we are able to hire.

We serve 250 students Pre-K through 12. We have implemented a "Quality"
model into our organization that has lead to huge increases in reading
and math achievement (2.7 standard deviations of improvement) and a 36%
reduction in student behavior referrals. We believe the library should
be the center for learning in our schools. To further this belief we are
seeking grants to build a new school/community library and would hope
who ever we hire will bring excitement to the project.

Our schools are located in Maupin, Oregon. Maupin is located on the
Deschutes River 40 miles south of The Dalles and 75 miles east of Sandy.
We enjoy outstanding outdoor recreation. The river provides
opportunities for world-class fishing, there is a myriad of
opportunities to hunt, the ski resorts on Mt. Hood are 35-45 miles away,
there is wind surfing in the Gorge, etc. We are also only 1.5-2 hours
away from Portland International Airport. We have several community
members who have season tickets to the Blazers, the Portland Opera and
to the Broadway on the Road shows in Portland.

If you or someone you know that has a library certification might be
interested (or would just like more info) please send us your name,
address, phone and email address. Please send to the above address or
contact me directly through email, tomr at swasco.net. This in no way would
mean that you will apply for the job... just that you are willing to
look at the possibilities if they arise.

Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Tom B. Rinearson Superintendent

P.S. Our school district is in one of the Counties where a person who is
retired from PERS can still work full time and not have it affect your
PERS. Gee get two checks a month and live in a great place... hmmm
