The Reference Roundtable held its annual business meeting at the OLA
Conference. The following are highlights:
Programs this year:
* "Hot Tips for Searching NewsBank Oregonian." It was held in Newport on
Friday September 13, from noon to 4:00 p.m. Michelle Klinowski from
NewsBank discussed best ways to search the Newsbank Oregonian. In addition,
Carol McMenamin from the Oregonian Library explained how stories that appear
in the Oregonian are sent to NewsBank.
* "Rumpole the Librarian" a program on finding answers to legal questions
was held on Friday, January 31st, at the Salem Public Library's Anderson
Room. Presenters were Angela Hodge, a law librarian and former legal aid,
and Joe Stephens of the Oregon Supreme Court
* "Reference Refreshers: a Program of Timely Talk Tables" This session
consisted of three 40 minute talk table sessions on the following topics:
o Training the trainer: Reference interview techniques;
o Doing more with less : how to survive with a shrinking budget;
o Internet blues : Challenges of managing this increasingly popular
resource;
o Emotional Vampires & Wackos 101: how to be gentle yet firm;
o Patron privacy: new paradigms?
Upcoming program:
Digital Reference, an update on the Virtual Reference Project in Oregon,
date and location TBA
We have our own RRT Listserv for communication between RRT members and to
announce programs

* Explain what you want to do (ie. Join Reference Roundtable listserv or
Exit Reference Roundtable listserv).
Treasury: RRT has over $4,000 in its account, which may be used for future
programming.
