Monmouth, home to Western Oregon University, is a small town with a high
quality of life. Monmouth has a Council-Manager form of government and
the Library Director is accountable to the City Manager.

The Department includes 3 full time and 5 part time employees. The
total budget for the department is about $486,000. The current library
was built in 1995. The Library collection includes 76,411 items, and
circulation in FY 2001-02 was 155,033.

The Director must be a manager who can delegate without micromanaging,
is comfortable providing "hands on" customer service, can budget
resourcefully, and is technologically astute. The ability to assess and
assimilate community priorities and provide leadership to ensure the
Library is responsive is important. The ability to build positive
relationships and partnerships with various groups and citizens is
essential.

MLS and 6 years of experience in a public/academic library. Minimum 3

Technical Services and Collections Librarian

The Oregon Institute of Technology Library invites applications for a
library faculty position to lead the Technical Services and Collections
(TSC) Department. The department includes cataloging, acquisitions, serials,
preservation and collection management and is staffed by two library
technicians and several student assistants. The library recently received
funding to develop a digital library focusing on water use in the local
region and the successful candidate will play an essential role in this
exciting new project. Additionally, this position participates in the
library's instruction/reference activities. The TSC Librarian reports to the
Library Director.

Requirements: ALA accredited Master's degree in Library Science earned or in
progress, or demonstrated equivalent; knowledge of cataloging principles and
experience with LC, AACR2, MARC formats and OCLC; demonstrated leadership
abilities; excellent communication and problem-solving skills; ability to
work effectively in a collegial environment; experience with an integrated
library system, preferably Innovative Interfaces; ability to learn new
skills quickly and to manage multiple tasks simultaneously; user-centered
approach to library services.

Preferred: Experience with digital library development and knowledge of
related issues; understanding of metadata harvesting; demonstrated ability
to teach library skills in a classroom setting; ability to provide basic
trouble shooting on staff and public computers; supervisory or management
experience; academic library experience.

Primary Responsibilities:
Provide leadership in the management and policy development of the Technical
Services and Collections Department, including supervision of two library
technicians;
Work with digital project team to develop metadata infrastructure,
appropriate standards and procedures; Serve as liaison to assigned academic
department for collection
Development; Provide reference assistance and instruction to students and
staff.

Salary DOE, minimum $36,000. Oregon offers a complete benefits package and

RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages circulation and shelving functions and coordinates activities with
other division managers and workgroups. Circulation includes check in, check
out, reserves, lost and damaged materials, and shelving. Recommends hiring
and termination. Trains and evaluates employees including lead workers.
Serves as backup System Administrator for online circulation system. Manages
library's debt collection service and negotiates payment plans with patrons.
Oversees and safeguards the collection and timely deposits of fees and
charges and ensures compliance with City accounting policies and internal
control. Coordinates volunteer program. Promotes and models excellent
customer service responding to patron complaints or requests for service.
Participates in management leadership team. This is an FSLA management
exempt position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, experience and
training providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary
to perform the essential functions of the position. Five years progressive
work experience at least three of which are in a supervisory capacity.
Ability to work with the public, staff and volunteers in a timely,
respectful and responsive manner. Excellent interpersonal and communication
skills. The ability to get along with coworkers and the public and maintain
effective work relationships including effective labor relations. Ability to
supervise others. Excellent analytical, organizational, customer service and
conflict resolution skills. Ability to coordinate multiple functions and to
prioritize available resources to meet anticipated and variable workloads.
Ability to lift, move, shelve and unshelve books and other library materials
on a regular basis and ability to handle boxes of materials up to 50 lbs.
Considerable knowledge of computer programs and operations as they apply to
the library. Ability to troubleshoot computer problems. This position will
require a background check and/or criminal history check.

Mount Angel Abbey Library is seeking a Cataloging Librarian to perform
professional cataloging duties. Responsibilities include original as well as
complex copy cataloging of material in all formats.

Requirements include familiarity with cataloging principles and practices,
experience using both a bibliographic utility and library automation
software (preferably Voyager) for cataloging activities, and knowledge of
authority control procedures.

Qualifications: Masters degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA
accredited library school; knowledge of cataloging standards (AACRII, LCSH,
MARC21); excellent computer skills including broad familiarity with desktop
computing operations, general knowledge of the Internet and the Web,
familiarity with library applications, knowledge of bibliographic and
technical databases (eg. OCLC). Ability to work in a team environment,
flexibility, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are also
necessary. Ability to train and guide copy catalogers is essential. Reading
knowledge of Latin and German a plus.

Salary based on education & experience. The Abbey Library serves a Roman
Catholic seminary and monastic community in Oregon's beautiful Willamette

collection, which ranges from manuscripts of the 14th century to livres

Library Project Coordinator

The Fort Vancouver Regional Library District has a current opening for a
Cultural Diversity Grant Project Coordinator to work 32 hours per week.
This is a temporary, grant funded position which will end 8/31/04.

The successful candidate will assist in planning, organizing and performing
activities related to recruitment of volunteers to implement English
Conversation Circles for non-English speaking residents in four targeted
communities within the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District. Experience
in volunteer related recruitment, community outreach and project management
is highly desired; previous library experience desired but not required.

Requires the ability to work within a team environment; work with minimal
supervision; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
willingness to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and
weekends; travel long distance to branches and community organizations
throughout the Library District; fluency in Spanish (both written and oral)
is desirable. Requires the equivalent BA or BS degree in Social Work,
Communication or related field, an MLS from an ALA accredited school is
desired, but not required. A valid driver’s license and safe driving record
is required. $17.56 per hour, medical benefits.
