The University of Portland has openings for 2 staff positions: Evening 
Circulation Supervisor and Interlibrary Loan Technical Assistant.

Job Title: Evening Circulation Supervisor 
Closing Date: August 4th 2003
Location: Portland Oregon

Position Description: The Evening Circulation Supervisor is in charge of
the library building as well as the Circulation Unit during the evening
hours. During the evening hours, the Supervisor directly supervises 3-4
student workers in Circulation each hour and monitors the activities of
the graphics center staff as well.  The Supervisor handles all training of
new students on the evening shift, and oversees shelving, shelf reading
and stacks maintenance.  The evening supervisor also prepares periodicals
for the outgoing shipment to the bindery, assists with processing of
electronic reserves and prepares written documentation for Circulation
procedures.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of computer
applications including Innovative Interfaces and Microsoft Office
applications. Ability to design and maintain databases in Access is
particularly desired.  Additionally, this candidate will possess excellent
interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to deal
diplomatically & positively with a variety of clientele in sometimes
stressful situations.  Prior supervisory experience preferred. Bachelor's
degree preferred. The workweek for this position is Sun-Thurs
(3:00pm-12:00am) during the Fall & Spring terms and 1:00pm -10:00pm during
the summer.

Interlibrary Loan Technical Assistant

Job Title: Interlibrary Loan Technical Assistant

Location: Portland Oregon

The University of Portland, a private Catholic institution of higher 
learning is seeking a Document Delivery/Interlibrary Loan Technical 
Assistant to join the staff of the W.W. Clark Memorial Library. The 
library has a team oriented and rapidly changing environment.  Both 
positions require flexibility and a spirit of cooperation within the team 
and the library as a whole. 

The Document Delivery/Interlibrary Loan Technical Assistant is responsible
for administering document delivery services for Distant Education
students as well as overseeing all borrowing and lending activities in the
unit, communicating with reciprocating libraries to insure excellent
service; designing & implementing efficient workflow, utilizing all
available resources within the library to ensure rapid delivery of
materials; planning for & monitoring hardware & software enhancements &
system upgrades. The position is also responsible for writing & revising
procedure manuals; seeking ways of encompassing new technology (web-based
and otherwise) for delivering services; hiring, training & evaluating
student workers who perform all routine operations. The ideal candidate
will have a proven record of a positive service orientation and ability to
work well in a team situation.  Experience with Document
Delivery/Interlibrary Loan required, preferably in an academic setting.  
Bachelor's degree preferred. Knowledge of computer applications including
Innovative Interfaces, Windows, the WWW, OCLC, Clio, Passport and Ariel.  
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to deal
with a variety of clientele in sometimes stressful situations in a
diplomatic and positive manner; the ability to work effectively with the
UP community and the library community at large.  Ability to resourcefully
respond to a changing workload.

Starting salary for this position will be in the $24K range.
