This position is in the Hamersly Library at Western Oregon University in
Monmouth. This is a regular, full-time position and is represented by the
Oregon Public Employees Union.

 

Duties: Under the direction of the Technical Services Librarian, coordinates
the daily operations of the Technical Services unit, including acquisitions,
cataloging, physical processing and serials functions. Supervises student
workers in the Technical Services unit, including hiring, scheduling,
training and performing evaluations. Performs routine and complex copy
cataloging of monographs, serials, government documents, and non-book
materials, including electronic resources.

 

Qualifications: 

Required: Three years of experience as a Library Technician or an equivalent
combination of education, training, or experience. Previous experience
supervising student workers or volunteers. Previous education or experience
in library copy cataloging.  Accurate keyboarding skills and proficiency
with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, e-mail and Web browsing
applications. Proficiency in written and spoken English and excellent oral
and written communication skills. Demonstrated  ability to manage multiple
tasks and to complete detailed work accurately and efficiently with minimal
supervision.

Desired: Experience with managing office operations. Experience with
purchasing, bookkeeping, or accounting. Experience using OCLC and/or an
Innovative Interfaces integrated library system. Experience with library
serials management or physical  processing of library materials. Experience
with Web publishing or computer programming. Reading knowledge of at least

one western European language other than English. Bachelor's degree.

Plans, organizes, and supervises the operations of the Technical Services

Unit in the Eugene Public Library, and provides professional support.

Supervises union represented and non-represented staff and volunteers.

Performs a variety of technical tasks relative to the assignment.

 

Qualifications

Knowledge of: Principles and procedures of professional library work
including methods, practices, and techniques of library classification and
cataloging. 

Integrated library system theory and practice. Policies, procedures, and
functions of the library. Computerized cataloging, bibliographical, and
circulation system databases; OCLC, PromptCat, AACR2, Dewey classification,
and other standard public library cataloging tools and standards. Materials
and services available in public libraries. Principles and practices of
supervision, training, and performance evaluation. Roles of the public
library in the community. General accounting principles as related to
library acquisitions practice.

 

Minimum Requirements

Education: Master of Library Science degree from an American Library

Association-accredited college or university.

Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible professional library
experience, including one year supervisory experience in a library setting.

 

Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum

requirements may be substituted.

 

Salary and Benefits

The normal starting salary is the first step shown on the posting. Other

placement in the salary range may be considered depending on qualifications

and experience. Periodic advancement through the salary range may be

considered depending upon merit. The City provides a full range of benefits,

including holidays, vacation, sick leave, retirement benefits, deferred

compensation (additional two percent), physical examination, life insurance,

and long-term disability. Health, dental, and vision benefits are available.

This insurance is paid in full or in part depending on number of hours

Oregon State University Libraries Oregon State University Libraries seeks

organization. These individuals would work within our subject-oriented
clusters. The Social Sciences/Humanities Cluster supports the College of
Liberal Arts and the Libraries' government document collection. The Science
Cluster supports Health & Biosciences, Business & Technology, Natural
Resources and Earth Systems sciences. Reporting to the Heads of Reference,
Instruction and Collection Development all positions support the research
and instruction needs of the OSU community.

 

Responsibilities: Provide reference and research assistance, including
digital reference; contribute to an active instruction program; develop
strong liaison relationships with academic departments to build research
collections and enhance teaching. The individuals in these position will
participate in the library's expanding digital initiatives, propose and
promote new services, and act as content advisors to meet the needs of a
large, research university. They will serve as subject selectors responsible
for all aspects of development and management of resources in digital and
print formats for principal subject areas.

 

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and an M.L.S (completion
date by Sept. 1, 2003) from an accredited institution or a foreign
equivalent degree; excellent oral and written communication and
interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to work both independently and

for compliance to approved budget.  Oversee library funds.  Review and
approve budget requests and purchase orders within the department.

 

Prepare department-related reports and make presentations as necessary.

 

Attend City Council, Library Advisory Board, Public Librarians¹ Council, and
various other meetings, providing input and receiving direction or other
information.  Serve as secretary to the Advisory Board.

 

Manage library volunteer and Friends of the Library programs.  Recruit,
train and supervise volunteers in performing various duties within the
library.
