The Oregon Institute of Technology Library invites applications for a
library faculty position to lead the Technical Services and Collections
(TSC) Department. The department includes cataloging, acquisitions, serials,
preservation and collection management and is staffed by two library
technicians and several student assistants. The library recently received
funding to develop a digital library focusing on water use in the local
region and the successful candidate will play an essential role in this
exciting new project. Additionally, this position participates in the
library's instruction/reference activities. The TSC Librarian reports to the
Library Director.
Requirements: ALA accredited Master's degree in Library Science earned or
in progress, or demonstrated equivalent; knowledge of cataloging principles
and experience with LC, AACR2, MARC formats and OCLC; demonstrated
leadership abilities; excellent communication and problem-solving skills;
ability to work effectively in a collegial environment; experience with an
integrated library system, preferably Innovative Interfaces; ability to
learn new skills quickly and to manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
user-centered approach to library services.
Preferred: Experience with digital library development and knowledge of
related issues; understanding of metadata harvesting; demonstrated ability
to teach library skills in a classroom setting; ability to provide basic
trouble shooting on staff and public computers; supervisory or management
experience; academic library experience.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide leadership in the management and policy development of the
Technical Services and Collections Department, including supervision of two
library technicians;
Work with digital project team to develop metadata infrastructure,
appropriate standards and procedures;
Serve as liaison to assigned academic department for collection
Development;
Provide reference assistance and instruction to students and staff.

General Statement of Duties
Accurately performs a variety of detailed technical paraprofessional and
moderately complex clerical duties in the acquisition of library materials

Qualifications
Knowledge of: Library acquisitions processes and procedures. Basic
bookkeeping principles. Manual and automated cataloging and/or bibliographic
systems and procedures. OCLC and MARC formats, Library of Congress subject
headings, and Dewey classification.
Ability to: Perform computer data entry. Experience with OCLC, CATME,
Windows OS and MS Word, Excel, Internet, and computerized acquisitions
systems preferred. Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with other
staff, volunteers, and the public. Work independently and accurately and
make judgments of moderate complexity within the framework of training and
local standards. Successfully manage and prioritize numerous simultaneous

The normal starting salary is the first step shown on the posting. Other

The Oregon State Library is recruiting to fill the position of Librarian
assigned to the Government Research and Electronic Services team.
The primary role of Government Research and Electronic Services (GRES) is to
provide extensive and sophisticated research and information services,
consultation and referral services to state agency researchers and
information users, public officials, policy makers, Legislators, and staff.
The State Library also serves as a statewide resource for unique special
services in the areas of census and demographics, grants, and funding
information sources, Oregon and federal documents, Oregoniana,
Statesman-Journal indexing, and genealogy. The librarian in this position
works within the GRES Team of the State Library in providing customized
print, on-line, and other information services vital to the successful
operation of the Oregon State Government.
The purpose of this position is to provide specialized information services
for external and internal library clients, including consultative research
and reference work and training users to efficiently use information
resources. The Librarian analyzes, acquires, plans, coordinates, creates and
maintains information resources, often in specialized subject areas, at the
State Library or another state agency. This individual works in a team-based
organization and performs a variety of tasks as assigned or agreed to by the
team.
The Oregon State Library is an independent state agency governed by a
seven-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Governor. The State
Library's mission includes providing quality information services to Oregon
state government, providing reading materials to blind and print-disabled
Oregonians through Talking Book and Braille Services, and providing

WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical office environment in shared office. Uses word processing,
spreadsheets, file compression/extraction, translation and other programs on
PC and/or Macintosh microcomputer. Uses typewriter, telefax machine, and
other office equipment; uses Internet access software and e-mail.
Communicates orally, in person and in writing with staff, agency customers,
professional colleagues and the public. Occasional lifting of library
materials and equipment, including extreme reaching up and down. Extended

Foundation Assistant Director. We are looking for an individual who is
honest & ethical, flexible & receptive to change, patient, detail oriented,
dedicated, hard working and has a sense of humor. Primary responsibilities
include assisting in the daily operations and fundraising functions of the
Foundation. The successful candidate will provide highly responsible and
complex staff assistance to the Foundation Director and the FVRL Foundation
Board.
Requires a minimum of 5 years of proven successful fundraising experience,
including personal solicitation, direct mail and grant writing; ability to
work as a team member in a dynamic environment, experience working with
boards, donors and volunteers, proven ability to write persuasive text and
develop attractive printed materials; demonstrated history of successfully
using a relational database.
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent is desirable, preferably in non-profit
management, business or a related field. Must be able to travel throughout
the Library District and possess a valid drivers license and safe driving
record. This position is totally funded by the FVRL Foundation. Salary
range: $40,308-$50,340 annually with an excellent benefit package. To apply,

Cultural Diversity Grant Project Coordinator to work 32 hours per week.
This is a temporary, grant funded position which will end 8/31/04.
The successful candidate will assist in planning, organizing and performing
activities related to recruitment of volunteers to implement English
Conversation Circles for non-English speaking residents in four targeted
communities within the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District. Experience
in volunteer related recruitment, community outreach and project management
is highly desired; previous library experience desired but not required.
Requires the ability to work within a team environment; work with minimal
supervision; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
willingness to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and
weekends; travel long distance to branches and community organizations
throughout the Library District; fluency in Spanish (both written and oral)
is desirable. Requires the equivalent BA or BS degree in Social Work,
Communication or related field, an MLS from an ALA accredited school is
desired, but not required. A valid drivers license and safe driving record
is required. $17.56 per hour, medical benefits.
