In This Issue: Call your Senators Today!
Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) has submitted his amendment for libraries to
the Appropriations Committee leadership. The amendment will need 60
votes to pass
CALL YOUR SENATORS TODAY. Capitol Switchboard number is 202-224-3121.
Reed's amendment will:
1. Fully fund the new formula for LSTA, increasing the amount of
funds
going to EVERY STATE by $340,000.
2. Replace the funds for Native Americans and Native Hawaiians in
LSTA
3. Bring funding for school libraries to the President's request of
$27.5 million for Improving Literacy Through School Libraries
In FY03, the Department of Education received over 800 applications
from school districts for school library grants, they will have the
resources for only about 70 grants! This program NEEDS MORE MONEY
Call your Senator's Washington office today and tell them to vote for
Reed's library amendment to the Labor, HHS, Education Appropriations
bill. Thank you in advance for your help.
