The Oregon Library Association Support Staff Division (SSD) announces
an Introduction to Basic HTML workshop. The workshop will be held on
Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Portland
State University Library. The deadline to register is Friday, Oct.
17th, 2003.
Registration is limited to 10 participants.

The workshop will cover the basics of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)
and the creation of web pages. This workshop is geared to novices and
those who attend will leave with the ability to create simple pages.
Although the workshop will focus on the creation of web pages in the
library environment, those with a personal interest are also welcome.

The workshop will be conducted by Art Hendricks, Assistant Systems
Librarian at Portland State University, where he has worked for over
six years. Art began learning HTML at the University of Illinois
Urbana-Champaign in 1994, and has developed numerous HTML pages and
CGI scripts. He is pleased to share his knowledge of HTML with anyone
who wants to learn.

The cost is $40 for Support Staff Division members and $50 for
non-members. Refreshments will be provided. Lunch is on your own,
but a listing of nearby restaurants will be available.

The Portland State University library is located at the corner of SW
Park and Harrison (Park is one block east of 10th). There are metered
parking spaces in Parking III, located between 12th & 13th Avenues, near
the on-ramp to I-405. The university is also well-served by public
transportation.

The Support Staff Division offers scholarships for this and other
continuing education opportunities. For more information, please see:

Because space in the workshop is limited, registration will only be
available
to the first 10 individuals expressing interest. You MUST pre-register
by email,
phone or fax in order to reserve a place in the workshop. If you would like
to attend, please send your name, institution, and email address or
telephone
number to Kay Brooks or Sonja Patzer at Portland State University. We will
then hold a place for you in the workshop and send you a registration
form,
including information about payment.
