This Library Technician has special responsibilities as the Film Booking
Specialist - responsible for scheduling film/videos and DVDs for instructors
classroom use. Develop, monitor and maintain Film Booking Collection. S/he
will also be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Sylvania
collection assuring the collection is in order.

*Train and supervise student shelvers.
*Organize and monitor collection shifts as necessary.
*Inventory Sylvania campus library collection.
*Assist the Billing Specialist with shelf checks to avoid billing errors.
*Check the shelves daily for overdue "Reserve" items to avoid errors and
save mailing costs *Provide direct information to library patrons; Explain
and enforce library policies and procedures; Locate and check out library
materials to qualified users; Search and transfer requested materials to
pick up point in the college and in the NW Region.

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; Library/Media
Assistant Certificate or one year of post high school education in library
science. One year of related experience may substitute for the certificate
or post high school education.

Two years experience working in a library assisting patrons is required.

Proficiency in data entry, key boarding and use of database programs. Must
have good communication skills and be detail oriented. Preferred
Qualifications Understanding of the principles, policies, practices and

to join our forward-looking organization.  Reporting to the Head of
Reference & Instruction, this position supports the research and instruction
needs of the OSU community.

Responsibilities:  Provide reference and research assistance, including
digital reference; contribute to an active instruction program.  Develop
strong liaison relationships with academic departments to build research
collections and enhance teaching.  Work within the Science Cluster that
supports Health & Biosciences, Technology, Natural Resources and Earth
Systems Sciences. Participate in the library’s expanding digital initiatives
by proposing and promoting new services, and acting as a content advisor to
meet the needs of a large, research university.  Serve as a subject selector
responsible for all aspects of development and management of resources in
digital and print formats for principal subject areas assigned.  As
tenure-track faculty members, OSU librarians participate in faculty
governance and university services and engage in research and professional
development by publishing and reporting in professional journals, presenting
at national and regional meetings, and taking a leadership role in library
or academic societies and organizations

Qualifications 

Required:  M.L.S. / M.L.I.S. (completion date by January 1, 2005) from an
accredited institution or a foreign equivalent degree; Bachelor’s or higher
degree in a science discipline OR one or two years academic library
experience in a science or engineering discipline; excellent communication
and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to work both independently
and cooperatively with colleagues and library users in a service-oriented
environment; ability to work and negotiate with faculty and colleagues on
new services and collections; proven initiative and self-direction, and
willingness to engage in professional and scholarly activities.

Preferred:  Bachelor’s or higher degree in a science discipline AND one or
two years academic library experience in a science or engineering
discipline; One to two years professional experience in reference services,
instruction and/or collection development in an academic research library;
ability to apply current information technologies to reference and
instruction services, and to building digital collections; knowledge of
instructional design; familiarity with selection of digital as well as
paper-based materials; knowledge of issues associated with collecting and
preserving digital content.  Preferred qualifications also include a
demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

Employment Conditions:  This position is a full-time, 12-month, annual,
tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Renewal is at
the discretion of the University Librarian. Minimum salary of $37,008
annually plus medical, dental and life insurance are available; staff
tuition fee privileges for employee or a dependent at an Oregon university
System school (restrictions apply). This position earns 15 hours of vacation
and 8 hours of sick leave each month.

General description
The Garden Home Community Library is a small, busy library providing library
services to children and adults in a recently expanded library within the
Garden Home Recreation Center.  Our 18,000 item collection includes books,
DVDs, magazines and special sections for young children, school age readers,
parenting and popular fiction and non-fiction.  We pride ourselves on
providing a warm, inviting place for adults and children.

Essential functions
Responsible for collection development for childrens and youth areas,
including selection, purchasing, receiving and coordinating processing of
books (including graphic novels and anime) and media. 

Responsible for cataloging of materials using OCLC, CATME and Polaris.
Trains staff in copy cataloging and creating new item records. With Youth
Service assistant, plans, present and/or supervises Summer Reading Program.
With library board members, coordinates, plans and implements all phases of
library publicity. Attends meetings at county level as assigned. Other
duties may include assisting at circulation desk and story time
presentations. Represents and manages the library in director’s absence.  

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and three years public library experience with a thorough
knowledge of current library procedures, practices and philosophy.
Experience with cataloging (OCLC) and circulation systems (Polaris
preferred), Microsoft Office and Printshop. Experience working with children
in a library setting. Ability to work both independently and as part of the
library team. This position reports directly to the Library Director.

This is a full time position.  May include occasional evening and Saturday
shifts. The starting salary for this position is $31,500 -35,500 annually
with health and dental benefits and a Simple IRA savings incentive matching

recruiting for one full-time Library Information Associate position in the
Branch Library Services Program, Eastern Region.  This register will be used

DUTIES
This position is responsible for delivery of library and information
services to corrections center inmates and for assisting the Regional
Librarian by performing professional level duties related to collection
development, reference/information delivery, and automated circulation
systems for all the branches in the Eastern Region.  Under the supervision
of the Regional Librarian, maintains day-to-day library operations and
services to inmates at the Washington State Penitentiary including
circulation, serials, audio/visual services, processing of materials,
outreach and reference services.  Organizes, implements, and maintains all
phases of the interlibrary loan process. Manages automated circulation
system. This position hires, trains, supervises, coaches, and evaluates
inmate library clerks including organization of daily work and the
maintenance of library operations and services.  In coordination with
institution staff, enforces institutional and library rules.  Orders and
maintains library and office supplies.  In conjunction with the Regional
Librarian, plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates delivery of services
such as outreach, library orientations, and library skill training for the
Eastern Region branch libraries.  Compiles periodic statistical and
narrative reports.  This position works with colleagues in the Eastern
Region or other regions on projects for other branches, such as planning,
implementing, and evaluating major changes in a branch.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•	Must be able to supervise and work effectively with inmates and to
work alone with them for the majority of the work day.
•	Must be able to work within the constraints of a correctional
facility by understanding and following DOC  policies and procedures.
•	Must be able to make independent judgments and decisions.
•	Must be able to handle multiple priorities with constant
interruptions.
•	Must be able to understand, interpret, and follow WSL and DOC
policies and procedures.
•	Must be able to build and maintain a productive working relationship
with the host institution through clear and effective communication, both
verbal and written.
•	Must be able to perform job duties while maintaining constant visual
and auditory awareness of surroundings.
•	Must be able to cope with stressful situations.
•	Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
•	Must be able to lift 25 pounds, be able to retrieve materials from
high and low shelves, and able to stand, sit, or walk for long periods of
time.
•	Must be able to use a computer keyboard and mouse to perform basic
functions such as circulation, word processing, and email.
•	Must be able to report to work on time, complete each scheduled
shift, and maintain good attendance.
•	The business needs of this position require a valid driver’s
license.

SPECIAL NOTE

to submit to a criminal history background check.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A Master's degree in library science from an American Library Association
accredited program and certification by the State Librarian authorized
through the Office of the Secretary of State; or certification by
professional portfolio as authorized through the Office of the Secretary of
State; OR
A Bachelor's degree which includes an equivalent to 30 quarter hours in
library science; and two years of experience in the functional operations of
a library. One additional year of experience with duties equivalent to a
library information technician may be substituted for the required credit
hours; OR
An accredited associate degree in library technology and four years of
experience in the functional operations of a library; OR
Six years of experience in at least two functional areas (i.e., circulation,
reference, interlibrary loan, serials, media services, government
publications and acquisitions) of a library. 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
•	Twelve months experience in public services, including reference and
reader’s advisory
•	Twelve months experience in collection maintenance, including
selection, weeding, and record maintenance
•	Twelve months experience developing and implementing library
projects

$2468 - $3134 per month, depending on qualifications.  Washington State
