Jean Smith, Director of the Josephine County Library System from
1979-1985, passed away on February 13.  Always interested in library
cooperation, she initiated one of the first public and academic shared
automated systems in Oregon with the Rogue Community College Library. 
She supported joint staff-development programs with neighboring Jackson
County Library and served as president of the Southern Oregon Library
Federation.  For her contributions to statewide and regional library
development, she was named an Honorary Life Member of OLA in 1987.
