GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position manages the daily operations of the Circulation and Collection
Maintenance unit in the Valley Library. The unit is comprised of classified
staff and part-time student assistants. The position is responsible for
maintaining circulation access to the library collection, assuring the
smooth flow of materials through the library and offsite storage facility,
and the physical maintenance of shelving resources. This is one of the more
sensitive public relations interface points in the library as it exists to
provide a direct service to Oregon State University students, faculty and

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Head of Access Services, the Circulation and Collection
Maintenance Specialist plans and monitors the daily operation of the
Circulation desk and maintenance of the library collection; maintains policy

the Circulation Desk providing assistance to patrons borrowing library

reviews work; writes performance evaluations; prepares staff and student
schedules to assure adequate coverage; plans for and/or provides initial and
ongoing training in customer service and collection maintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of two years supervisory experience, including hiring, scheduling,
training, and evaluating performance; previous management experience in a
public services environment. Also, demonstrated ability to: train and
supervise staff; maintain effective working relationships with coworkers;
manage multiple tasks and assign work; plan, implement, evaluate and report
activities; work collaboratively with individuals and small groups; strong
oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred: experience working in an academic library and in a team-based
setting; familiarity with library automated systems; demonstrated commitment

POSITION INFORMATION:
This is a full-time, 12-month, fixed term professional faculty appointment.
Renewal is at the discretion of the University Librarian. Salary

Job Summary/Primary Responsibility:
The Assistant Librarian is responsible for fulfilling reference and
interlibrary loan requests in the field of natural resources (focusing on
fisheries). OCLC is the primary bibliographic utility. The Assistant
Librarian is also responsible for development of digital library resources,
including bibliographies and electronic document collections. Other
responsibilities include (and are not limited to) training patrons to
utilize library services and software, including the StreamNet website,
developing potential of library management software (DBTextworks),
collection development, library program development, and assisting with
special cataloging

The Library staff is team-oriented. Each staff member has assigned duties
and is allowed the freedom to complete those duties. As a team, the Library
staff members work together to gather information for reference requests.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Answer reference and information requests, by interviewing patrons for
details of necessary information, using all available reference sources
including (but not limited to) print, online, CD (compact disc), and
personal contacts.
2. Coordinate all interlibrary loan requests by verifying citations in
bibliographic sources and entering requests in computer tracking system as
well as utilization of OCLC ILL (interlibrary loan) subsystem software
(Passport and WebILL).
3. Work with the Librarian by assisting with various library development
(esp. digital) and maintenance projects and other duties as assigned and as
appropriate to CRITFC and StreamNet goals and purposes.
4. Work with Library staff to assure smooth and effective operations by
creating and continually evaluating existing systems, resources, policies,
and procedures/methods.
5. In the absence of the Librarian, assumes responsibility for library
operations.
6. Work with the Library Technician by assisting with various projects.
7. Assist in cataloging library materials according to standard library
practice by using standard cataloging tools.

Job Requirements/Qualifications: Masters degree in Library or Information
Science from an ALA accredited program (or equivalent combination of
experience and education: minimum Bachelor¹s degree plus 5 years full-time
library experience); Demonstrated practical experience with the OCLC-ILL,
Ariel, and related software; Experience with reference work, including
electronic resources; or knowledge of scientific reference sources (print,
CD and online) may be substituted; Knowledge, experience, and skill with
personal computers (Windows OS, MS Office), networking, Internet resources
(web design and searching), and library automation software (especially
InMagic/DBTextworks); Experience with the World Wide Web and other Internet

Supervision Given: Supervision of Library Technician(s) and volunteers as
required by projects.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment with adequate
heating, lighting, and ventilation. Some privacy is provided for
concentration and phone conversation. Travel to other locations may be
required, although on an infrequent basis.

The work is sedentary. Work assignments are multiple and performed, at
times, under severe time constraints. Work usually involves limited physical
activity and will regularly require the use of computers, video display

The Office of the Secretary of State, Washington State Library Division
(WSL), has a part-time vacancy in the Research and Development Program. This
program is responsible for creating digital collections and services for
Washington citizens.

Primary duties: This position is for a half-time entry level professional
librarian. The employee will be involved in the planning and management of
digital projects concentrating on the Library's newspaper collection, and
will work with other program staff to determine goals; evaluate program
performance; and participate in ongoing efforts to accomplish program,
division or agency missions.

Primary tasks - Under oversight of Program Manager, assists in planning and
implementing digital access and preservation projects for newspapers. This
includes bibliographic work with the microfilm, verifying holdings and title
changes, liaising with cataloging staff to resolve any questions, scheduling
scanning of film and working with others on the post-scanning processing of
the images.

Under direction will perform batch processing of images, learning and using
software for the agency's presentation format and converting images for web
presentation. This position will also work on any OCR processes or indexing
that needs to be done for the project.

With other staff, assists in developing a plan for organizing and presenting
the newspapers as a digital collection and may be involved in creating
introductory or accompanying material for digitized newspapers.

The library director is responsible for long-term planning, building
maintenance, and computer system development on Horizon. The director must

The director must demonstrate leadership and management skills. The new
director must also have excellent interpersonal skills in order to work
