Reference and Instruction Librarian
Oregon Health & Science University Library
The Oregon Health & Science University Library invites applications for
a Reference and Instruction Librarian to work with the Research &
Reference Services Department. The applicant must be committed to
providing excellent and innovative service, and must have the ability to
work closely with other members of the Department. The appointee shall
provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the
university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care,
outreach and public service.
Summary of Responsibilities:
-- Traditional and electronic reference service
-- Classroom and online bibliographic instruction
-- Research consultation
-- Course-integrated instruction
-- Database searching
-- Web page development
-- Development of web-based tutorials
-- Development of traditional and online courses
-- Participation in library and/or OHSU committees
-- Other responsibilities as assigned
Required qualifications are:
-- Masters degree in ALA accredited program or degree within 6 months
of hire
-- Excellent written and oral communication skills
-- Database searching skills
-- Effective teaching skills, especially in adult education
-- Experience with and knowledge of the Internet as a reference
resource
-- Experience related to Web design and Web authoring
-- Ability to work with a variety of people in a variety of
circumstances
-- Commitment to excellent customer service
-- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
-- Ability to work successfully in a collaborative environment
Additional desirable qualities/qualifications:
-- Health sciences or basic sciences background
-- Experience searching MEDLINE and other health sciences databases
-- Recent experience in a health sciences library
-- Familiarity with bibliographic management software
-- Creative, innovative, and flexible
-- Interest in professional involvement within medical librarianship
This position is a 12-month academic appointment with annual review and
renewal. Minimum salary is $38,000. Generous benefits.
The Oregon Health & Science University serves the people of Oregon as
the primary institution for health education and research and is a
center for innovative clinical care. The University is located in
Portland, Oregon, a dynamic community situated approximately 80 miles
from the Pacific Ocean and 60 miles from the Cascade Mountains. The
OHSU Library is part of the Biomedical Information Communications Center
(BICC). The Library serves the OHSU campuses in Portland and around the
