This is the perfect job for an ambitious and energetic librarian, who has
supervisory experience and is eager to land that first director's position!

 

The Garden Home Community Library is a small but very busy library, with a
yearly circulation of about 143,000 that has grown dramatically over the
past several years. Our library facility has doubled its space (from 930 to
1886 square feet) with a major expansion project completed in February 2004.
A full-service library for all ages, the Garden Home Community Library has
nearly 15,000 items. This collection includes books, videos, DVDs, CDs, CD
ROMS, magazines and newspapers with special sections for young children,
school-age readers, parenting, foreign language books, best sellers,
mysteries, biographies, fiction and nonfiction. Ongoing programs include
summer reading, the monthly book club, story-time for children, as well as
many special events each year. We especially pride ourselves on providing a
warm, inviting place for young children and their parents. The Garden Home
Community Library is housed in the Garden Home Recreation Center, which is
operated by the Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreational District; this rare
and unique twenty-year partnership offers special opportunities for our
library patrons.

 

Job responsibilities: Plan, direct, supervise and evaluate the operation of
the various library services including circulation, interlibrary loan,
acquisitions, children's programs to ensure that they meet the needs of our
patrons; Plan strategies to improve and/or expand services within
constraints of budget; Plan with the board for budgetary and staffing needs
of the library; Formulate policies and procedures of the library; Hire,
train, supervise, and evaluate the work of the library staff; Supervise
general collection management;  Participate in professional organizations
and conferences; Represent Garden Home Community Library as a member of the
Washington County Cooperative Library System.

 

Required Qualifications: An ALA accredited MLS degree; two years experience
working in a public or school library; Experience working with pre-school
children; A demonstrated knowledge of general management skills including
personnel supervision and management with two years experience preferred;
Experience supervising and working effectively with volunteers; Knowledge of
public library organization, principles and practices; Experience with a
computerized library circulation system; Facility working with Microsoft
Office software. Further, the applicant must have good communication skills
and be a self-motivated, energetic, resourceful, and creative individual who
can work collaboratively with the Library Board and Staff. This job requires
a willingness to take on tasks that would normally be delegated in a larger
library. Experience in the Washington County Cooperative Library System and
with Polaris software is a plus. The Library Director reports directly to
the Garden Home Community Library Association Board. Salary range is
$42,000-$48,000 with benefits.
