Dear colleagues, Many of you responded quickly and articulately to the
request from the ALA Washington Office for descriptions of your
partnerships with local Head Start programs. The Office and I are
thrilled with the hundreds of messages you sent...what an amazing and
gratifying number of fine programs librarians across the country have
developed to meet the needs of children in Head Start programs and their
families. Congratulations to you all! The Office is using these
descriptions to inform the work its doing with individual members of
Congress. I hope that we'll be able to make a compilation available for
ALSC members who are interested in seeing what's going on.

ALA/ALSC are moving to the next step and need your help once again.
Attached is a sample letter for you to use with your own member of
Congress, encouraging him or her to support Head Start reauthorization
with the library language included. Congress is beginning work on the
reauthorization now. We want ALSC members and partners in other ALA
divisions to flood Congress with this letter! Please personalize the
attached letter by adding your signature and address and e-mail it using
ALA's action link
<http://www.ala.org/ala/issues/takeaction/takeaction.htm>today! Thank
you for your advocacy on this important initiative. Together we can have
a powerful impact that can ensure the success of this important ALA/ALSC
initiative.
