LIBRARY SUPPORT SERVICES SUPERVISOR

The City of Tualatin is seeking an experienced librarian to oversee the
technical services and circulation functions of the Tualatin Public Library.
Qualified applicants should have a Master's of Library Science and three
years of professional library experience. Also required is one year of
cataloging experience and two years of supervisory experience.
The Position
The Library Support Services Supervisor reports to the Library Manager and
is part of the management team that helps develop library-wide objectives,
policies and procedures. The position supervises a full-time technical
services librarian and four full-time Library Assistants as well as 3.2
F.T.E. on-call Library Clerks and a part-time volunteer specialist. The
Library Support Services Supervisor and staff are responsible for
acquisitions, cataloging, processing and circulation.
The Library
Tualatin Public Library is 8,500 square feet in size housing a collection of
about 65,000 items. In 2004 the library added about 9,000 new items and
circulated 400,000 items. The library is a member of Washington County
Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS). The annual budget of just over $1M is
funded by WCCLS and the City of Tualatin. The library is open seven days a
week for a total of 65 hours. There are 11.5 regular staff and 4.2 F.T.E.
(full-time equivalent) on-call staff. Volunteers support the library with
more than 4,000 hours of volunteer work each year and there is an active
Friends of the Library group. The library is a wireless "hot spot" and
supports a homework center during the school year. Last year Tualatin
Public Library put on over 400 programs attracting more than 11,000
participants.

Serials Technical Assistant

The University of Portland, a private Catholic institution of higher
learning, is seeking applicants for the position of Serials Technical
Assistant in its W.W. Clark Memorial Library. The library is team oriented
with a rapidly changing environment. The position requires flexibility and
the spirit of cooperation within the team and the library as a whole.
The Serials Technical Assistant is responsible for ordering, receiving and
serials check in, processing, and claiming for serials in all formats.
Essential duties include ordering serials, overseeing check-in, processing,
and claiming of serials using Innovative Interfaces Millennium serials
module, creating and maintaining check-in records, processing title changes
and ceased titles, playing a lead role with student employees, and working
with staff and vendors to accomplish position goals. The ideal candidate
will have 1-2 years of college or equivalent training (college degree
preferred) and 1-2 years experience in automated library serials. Also
required are a working knowledge of: standard library systems and procedures
as they apply to the position, the acquisitions and serials modules of an
automated library system (preferably Innovative Interfaces), an online
bibliographic utility (preferably OCLC), and Microsoft Office. Excellent
interpersonal and communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work well
with the team and toward institutional goals, and an ability to respond
resourcefully to a changing work environment are essential. Prior
supervisory experience preferred. The position also requires the ability to
communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and the ability to push
a fully loaded book cart, move from floor to floor, lift, bend, and sit for
extended periods of time using computer and keyboard.
Starting salary is in the $26,000 range, comprehensive fringe benefits

position of Access Services Manager. This is a full-time 12-month position
with a flexible work schedule.
The Access Services Manager works in the Access Services Department of the
OIT Library. The department provides the following services: lending library
materials, responding to general questions from library users and referring
to other library staff, when appropriate; maintaining a course reserve
collection and services; requesting interlibrary loans for OIT library users
and filling interlibrary loan requests from other libraries; and maintaining
order in library collections.
Primary responsibilities: Providing and managing responsive, efficient
customer service for circulation, reserves, and interlibrary loan and
document delivery services including:
. Circulation and course reserve services, including processing and
maintenance of these materials;

Description:
The Science Library includes two branch collections: the Math Library and
the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology Library. Together, these three
libraries include close to 200,000 volumes and electronic access to
approximately 18,000 journal titles. Library staff members serve research
and instructional needs of graduate and undergraduate degree programs in
biology, chemistry, computer and information science, environmental science,
environmental studies, human physiology, geological sciences, mathematics
and physics.
Duties:
Provides reference and research service in person, electronically and by
telephone. Contributes to an active instruction program; designs and teaches
sessions for students, faculty and staff. Serves as a subject selector,
developing collections in digital and print formats for the principle
subject areas assigned. Develops strong liaison relationships with faculty
in assigned subject areas and performs outreach to the user community.
Creates and maintains print and digital tools to assist users in finding and
managing information. Reports to the Head of the Science Library.
Qualifications:
Required: ALA-accredited MLIS degree (must be granted by August 31, 2005);
experience or coursework in providing reference and research assistance in
an academic setting; experience or coursework in the design and delivery of
library instruction, and demonstrated ability to create instructional
materials in print and electronic modes; ability to work both independently,
and with others, in a demanding and rapidly changing environment;
demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills; the interpersonal
skills to work effectively with culturally diverse library users and
colleagues; demonstrated commitment to use-centered services.
Salary: $34,000 minimum, depending on qualifications and prior experience.
Librarians hold academic rank and faculty status, but are non-tenured.

The Office of the Secretary of State, Washington State Library Division
currently has one full-time Library Information Assistant vacancy in the
Collection Management Program. This register will be used to fill Library
Information Assistant vacancies as they occur in the Collection Management
Program.
LOCATION
This position is located in Tumwater, Washington.
DUTIES
The primary duties of this position are performed in the Resource Sharing
and newspaper collection of the Washington State Library. This position
reports to the Resource Sharing Operations and Newspaper Collection
Supervisor. This position provides service to customers of the Agency's
main and contracted branch libraries, including using expertise in OCLC,
ILLiad, and Ariel to conduct the functional activities of Resource
Sharing/Borrowing. Responsible for shelving and maintenance of the
newspaper collection. Assists in the preparations for the archiving of
newspapers and historical multimedia collections, in the processing of new
materials for both collections, and in creating new points of digital access

REQUIREMENTS
An associate degree in library technology from an accredited program and one
year of technical experience in the functional operations of a library with
duties equivalent to those of an Office Assistant Senior OR three years of
experience in the functional operations of a library with at least one year
equivalent to the duties of an Office Assistant Senior.
College level work may be substituted for one year of experience. No
substitution will be allowed for the one year experience equivalent to the
duties of an Office Assistant Senior working in the functional operations of
a library.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Experience within the last two (2) years setting-up and operating both
analog and digital multimedia equipment (such as digital video recording,
16mm film projection, and public address systems).
Experience within the last two (2) years working in interlibrary
loan/Resource Sharing that includes work with OCLC, ILLiad, Ariel, and
document delivery.
Experience working with newspapers, or another sizeable print collection,
including the preparation work to microfilm that collection and/or
inspecting the quality of microfilmed reproductions.
Experience working with multimedia acquisitions, including arranging to
preview materials and ensuring the receipt of licensing agreements, or
working in other library acquisitions procedures.
COMPENSATION
$2053 - $2586 per month, depending on qualifications. Washington State
