Library Digital Access Coordinator

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Head of Library Technology, the Library Digital Access
Coordinator serves as a coordinating presence behind the Libraries'
website regarding site structure, functionality, and architecture;
develops coding and other technical standards for efficient use of the
Libraries' website and communicates these standards to appropriate
library staff; researches, recommends and implements a content-based web
management system; consults with end users and cooperates closely with
senior systems administrators to manage major software applications on
both Linux/Unix and Windows servers; writes short computer programs and
scripts using PHP, Javascript, Perl, Java and .NET scripting languages
to develop web-based applications for enhancing the OSU Libraries'
website; remains current with trends in web technologies and design to
make appropriate recommendations for continuing development of the
digital library; develops and maintains web access to the Libraries'
catalog and other databases using various vendor interfaces; trains
non-technical library staff in the use of web development software and
the content-based web management system and serves as an expert resource
to assist library staff with web page development.
The Library Digital Access Coordinator supervises 2.0 FTE student web
developers and graphic designers. This position writes and reviews
position descriptions; hires student assistants; assigns, monitors and
reviews work; writes performance evaluations; prepares schedules;
responds to grievances and recommends salary adjustments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required qualifications include a minimum of three years experience in
web site design, development and maintenance and one year Linux/Unix and
Windows system administration experience; advanced knowledge of HTML,
graphic and web-based software and web browser technologies; knowledge
of Apache, MySQL and user interface design and testing; effective
interpersonal and communication skills; and the ability to work
collaboratively with colleagues and students and serve as a liaison
among digital library project partners.
Preferred qualifications include previous supervisory experience with
technical staff and student employees; experience with IIS and MS-SQL;
experience with end-user support and training; experience applying
technical applications in an academic library environment; ability to
write PHP, Javascript, Java, Perl and .NET applications; knowledge of
digital library initiatives and technical standards such as XML, Z39.50
and MARC and a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing
diversity.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
Full-time, 12-month, fixed-term professional faculty appointment.
Reappointment is at the discretion of the University Librarian. Minimum
annual salary is $36,000; appointment beyond minimum commensurate with
education/experience as it relates to the position.
