Salem, OR Willamette University's Mark O.  Hatfield Library is seeking an
archivist to administer the Mark O.  Hatfield and Willamette University
Archives and related collections.  Review of applications will begin
September 30, 2005. The archivist reports to the University Librarian.
Duties include the formulation and implementation of policies and procedures
for the arrangement, description, preservation, development, and access of
the collections.  The successful candidate will develop exhibits and
programs; engage in outreach locally, regionally, and nationally; develop
strategies for active donor and financial support; provide reference service
and instruction; develop and implement programs for the creation of digital
archives and automated access; prepare finding aids and inventories;
supervise, train, and evaluate staff.

The Hatfield Archives contain the papers and memorabilia of former Senator
Hatfield.  The archives also contain some papers of associates of Hatfield's
and other Oregon politicians.  The Willamette Archives includes
publications, papers, and memorabilia related to the history of Willamette.

Qualifications: Required: M.L.S.  from an ALA accredited school with course
work in archives administration and certification by the Academy of
Certified Archivists; at least three years of professional experience in an
archival setting; in depth knowledge of archival principles and practices;
experience with automated library and archival systems and electronic
formats in an archival setting; strong communication and interpersonal
skills; public services orientation; a record of professional involvement
and scholarship; and proven ability to work effectively with colleagues,
faculty, and students.  Preferred: Additional advanced degree in American
history, American politics, or a related discipline.

Coordinator serves as a coordinating presence behind the Libraries' website
regarding site structure, functionality, and architecture; develops coding
and other technical standards for efficient use of the Libraries' website
and communicates these standards to appropriate library staff; researches,
recommends and implements a content-based web management system; consults
with end users and cooperates closely with senior systems administrators to
manage major software applications on both Linux/Unix and Windows servers;
writes short computer programs and scripts using PHP, Javascript, Perl, Java
and .NET scripting languages to develop web-based applications for enhancing
the OSU Libraries' website; remains current with trends in web technologies
and design to make appropriate recommendations for continuing development of

catalog and other databases using various vendor interfaces; trains
non-technical library staff in the use of web development software and the
content-based web management system and serves as an expert resource to
assist library staff with web page development.

The Library Digital Access Coordinator supervises 2.0 FTE student web
developers and graphic designers.  This position writes and reviews position
descriptions; hires student assistants; assigns, monitors and reviews work;
writes performance evaluations; prepares schedules; responds to grievances
and recommends salary adjustments.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required qualifications include a minimum of three years experience in web
site design, development and maintenance and one year Linux/Unix and Windows
system administration experience; advanced knowledge of HTML, graphic and
web-based software and web browser technologies; knowledge of Apache, MySQL
and user interface design and testing; effective interpersonal and
communication skills; and the ability to work collaboratively with
colleagues and students and serve as a liaison among digital library project
partners.  

Preferred qualifications include previous supervisory experience with
technical staff and student employees; experience with IIS and MS-SQL;
experience with end-user support and training; experience applying technical
applications in an academic library environment; ability to write PHP,
Javascript, Java, Perl and .NET applications; knowledge of digital library
initiatives and technical standards such as XML, Z39.50 and MARC and a
demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
Full-time, 12-month, fixed-term professional faculty appointment.
Reappointment is at the discretion of the University Librarian.  Minimum
annual salary is $36,000; appointment beyond minimum commensurate with

learn new skills quickly and to manage a variety of tasks and shifting
priorities. Demonstrated leadership abilities, including one year of

Job Description:  Primary duties of this position are to provide proactive
reference desk service and instruction in this extremely busy Community
College Library.  Requires a working knowledge of basic reference sources,
electronic databases, and basic web design.  Will teach Library Instruction
classes as required.  Collection Development may be included.

Requirements: Masters in Library Science from ALA accredited program.
Relevant Reference Desk experience.

Preferred Qualifications:  Community College &/or academic library
experience. Related college-level teaching experience. An understanding of
and commitment to the educational role and philosophy of the community
college. Ability to work with non-traditional students Salary:  According to
