Subject: [ALA-WO:210] Correction-- Labor-HHS- Education Appropriations Update

ALAWON: American Library Association Washington Office Newsline
Volume 14, Number 130
Date: December 22, 2005

In This Issue: Correction --Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Update

In our effort to send everyone as much information as possible, as
quickly as possible we did not clearly state that the appropriations
numbers listed below are unofficial, but do reflect the recision (1%
across the board):

Improving Literacy Through School Libraries was level-funded, but with
the recision it will be $19.486.

LSTA was one of the few programs to receive an increase. LSTA will get
$210.597 million, almost a $5 million increase.

The LSTA distribution is:

State Grant program....$163.746 million
Native Americans/Native Hawaiians grants...$3.638 million
National Leadership grants....$12.375 million
Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Initiative...$23.76 million
Administration for IMLS....$7.078

Please contact your Senators and Representatives to THANK THEM for their
support of library services. Unlike other programs that were cut during
this most difficult year, libraries received a small but appreciated
increase.
