About the Webcast
In 1992, ARL, with members of the geographic information systems (GIS)
community, began the GIS Literacy Project in order to "introduce,
educate, and equip librarians with the skills necessary to provide
access to spatially referenced data in all formats." Since that time,
the role that libraries play in GIS has continued to expand across
communities and disciplines and to grow both within the library and in
campus centers. This growth has created new collaborations with
researchers, government agencies, the public, faculty, and students
alike. Libraries have responded with outreach, training, and the
development of new service models to meet individual institutional
needs. In addition, new questions around metadata, digitization, and
user assessment encourage libraries to continue thinking of digital
mapping and library services in new ways.
In this live, interactive webcast you will learn more about GIS library
services and their increasing importance across the insitution and in
partnerships beyond the library. By providing you with direct access to
hands-on experts, this Webcast gives library staff, campus faculty, and
administrators an opportunity to explore this topic in a shared learning
environment.
Presented by ARL's Federal Relations & Information Policy Program in
conjunction with ESRI.
